Aide - Environmental Services - L [Full-Time]
About the role
Job Summary:
As a crucial member of our team, the Aide – Environmental Services (L), is responsible for laundry services at the hostel locations across Sioux Lookout.
Accountability: The Aide - Environmental Services (L) will be responsible for reporting to the Supervisor - Environmental Services (L), Client Services Department.
Schedule: Weekdays, weekends, early mornings, late evenings, holidays
Position Type: Full-time
Posting Type: This is an existing Position
Salary Range: $23.794 to $31.959
Closing Date: Open until Filled
Location: Sioux Lookout, Ontario
Qualifications:
- Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
- The ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
- Written and oral communication skills acceptable to the employer that meet the requirements of the role of Aide – Environmental Services.
- Previous experience in laundry, preferably in a health services environment, would be an asset.
- Must have the flexibility to work all shifts.
- Must be an independent and self-motivated worker, as well as have the ability to work well within a team.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to complete training such as WHMIS, understanding of MSDS
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis
Roles and Responsibilities:

Gather linens, towels, and bedding daily.

Sort laundry as per SLFNHA procedures

Operate washers and dryers safely, using correct detergents, temperatures, and settings for hygiene standards

Ensure heavily soiled items are pre-treated and handled with appropriate PPE if required.

Fold all items neatly to SLFNHA standards

Organize by type and size for ease of redistribution to housekeeping or staff.

Check for stains, damage, or wear before and after washing.

Flag irreparable items to supervisors for disposal or replacement decisions.

Keep laundry rooms clean, tidy, and hazard-free.

Clean lint traps, mop floors, and wipe machines regularly

Monitor detergent and supply levels, informing supervisors of shortages.

Use appropriate PPE when required

Assisting the Aide – Environmental Services Housekeeping Team when needed

Coordinate with housekeeping to ensure timely linen turnover,
-
Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions:
- It will require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Considerable walking, standing, lifting, pulling, pushing and bending.
- Frequently required to lift up to 30 lbs.
