Position Summary

The faculty curriculum developer is primarily responsible for developing, designing, implementing, and evaluating the college curriculum as part of the academic team. Reporting to the dean, you will play a critical role in safeguarding academic quality assurance and maintaining the integrity and quality of the college programming. You will be developing a multi-disciplinary project based course that can be adapted to meet course learning outcomes for different credential levels and subject matter content.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend preliminary and regular check-in meetings with dean, associate dean, instructional design resource and other staff supporting course development
  • Design and develop content that meets Loyalist’s mandate for outcomes-based, learner-centered teaching strategies and assessments
  • Contribute to planning discussions and determine development criteria for content design that considers pedagogy, flexible delivery options, accessibility requirement, and universal design for learning
  • Develop all curriculum content and supporting materials, detailed assessments, rubrics, activities, weekly schedule, and course syllabus
  • Review existing learning materials and update older materials / create new ones based on the program requirements
  • Collaborate with appropriate internal departments (e.g. Centre for Leadership, Learning and Academic Excellence CLLAE, program coordinators) and external industry partners (where identified) to ensure alignment
  • Produce and submit content and activities per delivery schedule
  • Engage in final review and sign-off of each course module, according to loyalist processes
  • Curriculum development is an ancillary duty and is not part of the consideration towards academic teaching contact hours

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of curriculum development methodologies, including competency-based education, outcomes assessment, and student-centered learning.
  • Proven experience (at least 3-5 years) in curriculum development or instructional design, ideally in a related field.
  • Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in developing hands-on, project-based learning content that reflects current industry standards and practices for applied project learning
  • Experience with online and blended learning modalities, including proficiency with e-learning platforms and digital content creation is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex design concepts into engaging and accessible curriculum materials.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to coordinate with faculty, academic leadership, and industry professionals to ensure curriculum alignment with program learning outcomes, employer expectations and regulatory requirements.
