Program and Site Location: Various Locations (Kamloops and Merritt)

Reports To: TiOAT Coordinator

Term: Full-Time | Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm

Wage Range: $24.97 up to $28.62, based on education and related experience.

City: Kamloops

Purpose and Function:

As the Mobile Health Clinic Outreach Worker, you will work in collaboration with Telus, the TiOAT Team, Interior Health, the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Mental Health and Addictions (MHA), and the Outreach Team to initiate and deliver the various services. The Mobile Medical Clinic Outreach Worker operates in accordance to the policies and procedures set out by ASK Wellness. The Mobile Health Clinic Outreach Worker will also work in collaboration with the Mobile Health Nurse and various other health care providers. Service delivery is based on a client-centered, non-judgmental perspective.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Working side by side with a dedicated Nurses, the Outreach worker will have a role of engagement and support.
  • Drive the Mobile Clinic in a safe, confident, and respectful manner.
  • Ensure all CPR and first Aid courses are up to date
  • The Outreach Worker will keep track of stats and services provided to accurately report back to the Tioat Co-Ordinator weekly.
  • The OW will assist their team in following a schedule to ensure clients in the community have access to treatment in a consistent manner.
  • Connect clients to resources in the community (dentists, ministry, ect)
  • The OW will go into community agencies and shelters to alert staff the Mobile Clinic has arrived and ask for assistance in rounding up Client’s or seeing if any new Clients require wound care or assistance
  • Working collaboratively with the Nurse to provide clients with items to meet their basic needs such as harm reduction, donations, snacks, and water.
  • Assist in arranging transport for clients in need of a higher level of care or transport to appointments through outreach services.
  • Building trust and rapport within the community
  • Under direction of the Nurse, collaborate with other members of the ASK Nursing Team to ensure appointments at the Spero Clinic are arranged or reminders given.
  • Contact community groups/agencies to help reach as many clients as possible.
  • Collaborate with the coordinator of TiOAT Services and Nurse to make changes in the day-to-day planning for the Mobile Medical clinic as needed.
  • Ensure safe and effective communication is used with Clients and community agencies.
  • Other duties which may or may not be outlined within this job description.
  • Assists the Nurse during emergency situations
  • Creates critical incident reports as necessary
  • Ensure compliance with all Society policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the Mobile Clinic
  • Assist with ensuring van maintenance and logs are kept up to date

Qualifications and Suitability:

  • Class 5 Drivers license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Two years’ experience in working with a vulnerable/marginalized demographic
  • Comfortable around clients in active substance use including injection of substances.
  • Strong ability to recognize and address difficult behaviors.
  • Good communication, documentation, interpersonal, and conflict management skills
  • Ability to work within a team-based environment involving multi-agency support
  • Strong working knowledge of community resources
  • Understands and maintains professional boundaries
  • Must pass an acceptable criminal record check
  • Ability to take and follow direction
  • Outgoing attitude and willingness to learn
  • Narcan training
  • Clear writer and spoken communication
  • Experience using excel, word, and outlook needed
  • minimal occupational First Aid Level 1 and CPR-C
  • Readiness to complete in-house online training within the first month of employment
  • Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Trauma Informed Practice and cultural competency training an asset
  • Mechanical aptitude a plus
