Maintenance Supervisor

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Divisional Manager of Maintenance, the Supervisor will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Front-line supervision of all maintenance repairs, replacements and upgrades to a wide variety of a building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and other components at approximately 26 schools and administrative buildings.

  • Using a Computerize Work Order system to prioritize and assign work orders

  • Supervise approximately 12 Board maintenance staff and numerous service contractors.

  • Prepare spreadsheets and related reports, assessments as required.

  • Work in partnership with school principals, custodial staff and our Facility Services Management team to enhance Customer Service.

This position may involve some weekend work and will require being available as the on-call duty supervisor for approximately 8 weeks per year for after-hours and/or weekend emergencies.

Qualifications:

You will have completed a community college diploma program that has resulted in either a Certificate of Qualification or a related Engineering Diploma. An equivalent combination of related education such as supervisory education and related technical education and/or qualifications (i.e. Facility Management) or progress towards this completion may be considered. Your education and training are supported by at least 5 years’ experience in building construction and/or industrial, commercial or institutional building maintenance preferably with leadership and scheduling responsibilities. Additional supervisory and technical related education or experience will be an asset.

You have a positive, solution-oriented attitude accompanied by excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills. You can discuss and present information to other supervisors, principals, maintenance and custodial staff, contractors, suppliers and government inspectors. Previous experience working in a unionized environment is preferred. You are competent in Microsoft Office and are familiar with other computer-based maintenance software. You have a general knowledge in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act. You possess a solid understanding of the importance of excellent customer service and the ability to prioritize multiple needs and exercise judgment accordingly. You must possess and maintain a valid Class G Ontario Driver’s license.
