This role will work closely with leadership and technical teams to align architecture with business priorities, modernize legacy components, and ensure scalability, security, and maintainability.
Technology Environment
The successful candidate will be working within the following environment:
- Legacy Applications: PHP and Laravel-based monolithic platform with integrations to multiple external systems
- Frontend Frameworks: React and Node.js (Nest.js) for modern web application components
- Databases: AWS-hosted MySQL and Postgres, with existing data pipelines and reporting dependencies
- Infrastructure: AWS cloud environment with services supporting compute, storage, security, and scaling needs
- Integration Patterns: Mix of legacy point-to-point integrations and modern REST APIs under development
- Development & Delivery: Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments (Docker), and staging/QA environments
- Security & Compliance: HIPAA and industry-standard security requirements driving data privacy and access control design
- Modernization Goals: Transition from a monolithic PHP/Laravel system toward a modular, service-oriented, or microservices-based architecture with clear API boundaries and scalable components
Key Responsibilities
- Document the current-state architecture, including applications, integrations, data flows, and infrastructure
- Identify architectural risks, technical debt, and capability gaps
- Define the North Star target architecture aligned with business strategy and technology trends
- Develop a phased roadmap for modernization and improvements
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations to validate feasibility and priorities
- Ensure architecture designs meet performance, scalability, resilience, and compliance requirements
- Provide architectural guidance on ongoing and future initiatives
- Lead buy vs. build decision-making processes to ensure optimal solutions
- Establish and enforce development standards, coding guidelines, and best practices
- Define and oversee Dev/QA environment strategies to support scalable and consistent delivery
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of experience in enterprise or solution architecture roles
- Strong experience with SaaS platforms, cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred), and integration patterns
- Proven ability to document and communicate complex architectures clearly
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and secure architecture design
- Experience with legacy modernization and migration strategies
- Strong knowledge of APIs, data architecture, and microservices (or hybrid monolith transition)
Nice To Have
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or equivalent
- Background in healthcare technology or regulated industries
- Experience with architecture modeling tools (Sparx EA, ArchiMate, Lucidchart) and collaboration/visualization platforms such as Miro or Mural for workshops, roadmap design, and stakeholder alignment
