About the role

Job Summary & Requirements For over 20 years, Collingwood General & Marine Hospital (CGMH), Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH), Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) have been in partnership sharing a single Health Information System (HIS) – Meditech. This group has come to be known as “Regional Digital Health”. With the implementation of Meditech Expanse, RVH has been identified by the partnership as the Lead agency providing regional Meditech support and some other key services. The primary purpose of this partnership of the four hospitals is to improve patient safety and quality of care by promoting and maintaining a one patient, one record vision in our single shared HIS. The RDH Partnership has identified information and technology as key pillar to support a safe and efficient patient experience while driving clinical excellence.

Position Summary & Accountabilities Principal Trainers are pivotal in the Regional Digital Health Strategy and are grounded in the pillar for enhancing systems for Provider, Clinicians and Staff, aimed to drive improvement of education and communication between our provider teams as well as to improve efficiencies in workflows.

As a Provider Principal Trainer, you will report to the Regional Manager, Clinical Informatics: Provider & Ancillary, specifically on the Provider System Team. As a Principal Trainer, you will provide support for Provider users (Physicians, PA, NP etc.) across the Regional Digital Health partners (Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, Georgian Bay General Hospital, Headwaters Healthcare Centre and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre). Principal Trainers will provide instructor-led provider end user training through classroom or remote learning settings, as well as end user support. They will assess the training needs of end users during the course of training and deliver training materials effectively using techniques for individuals with different levels of computer literacy and styles of learning. This role includes maintenance of the training environments, training materials and competency assessments.

This role provides applications support for all Regional Partner Hospitals (CGMH, GBGH, HHHC and RVH) during core business hours (Monday to Friday) regular hours and off-hours will endeavor to support as possible. You must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license, as travel to support all hospitals is a requirement.

Responsibilities As a Principal Trainer-Provider, you will:

  • Demonstrate Provider Practice Understanding of workflows and Technological Proficiency.
  • Practice with the patient and family at the centre of your decision making, followed by clinical user workflow and satisfaction with the HCIS.
  • Role model positive attitude in alignment with the RDH Strategic Vision and RVH Values.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hospital staff workflows and roles to inform training and support trainees as a Meditech Expanse systems education expert.
  • Encourage evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement, scientific inquiry and research within clinical disciplines and across RDH partner care teams.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of Provincial standards and by laws (Ex: Hospitals Act), external accreditation bodies (Ex: Accreditation Canada), and clinical regulatory bodies and standards (Ex: CPSO, CRTO etc.)
  • Demonstrate expertise in HCIS technologies and applications.
  • Experience with Front end dictation (Dragon Dictation), provider workflows, ordering practice and order sets.
  • Assist with application testing during system changes, new functionality testing, and upgrades as required.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and apply Microsoft applications, teleconferencing software (e.g. Teams), and learning development software (e.g. Camtasia, Adobe Captivate) to support and enhance training development and delivery.
  • Demonstrate confidentiality regarding user and patient information.
  • Development and Delivery of End-User Training.
  • Develop, maintain, and update training curriculum, manuals, documentation, website and materials for HCIS applications.
  • Apply learning industry best practices and Adult Learning principles to inform training approaches for face-to-face instruction, virtual learning, and hybrid learning models.
  • Prepare for and provide training to all levels of provider staff.
  • Modify instructional methods based on individual and group needs.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide additional coaching as needed, during training class.
  • Incorporate feedback from users, subject matter experts, relevant stakeholders, and training needs assessments to inform changes to curriculum, delivery, and administration procedures.
  • Provide feedback to management and RDH team regarding process improvements, end-user feedback, and content gaps.
  • Support and Drive Provider User HCIS Skills Development.
  • Encourages, promotes, and facilitates continuous HCIS learning opportunities and materials to improve Provider practice and satisfaction within the HCIS.
  • Creates and maintain an environment (physical and virtual) that optimizes learning, to ensure ongoing educational opportunities on clinical practice and HCIS skills for Provider staff.
  • Provides regional educational support, collaboration and training opportunities when required and/or requested by regional partners when able to.
  • Acts as an HCIS educational consultant for Provider Users.
  • Facilitates HCIS knowledge transfer, information and support in the Practice setting for Provider Users
  • Provide end-user support during new application/module go-lives.
  • Provide proactive pre-/post- training support to users, including troubleshooting system issues.
  • Provide daytime on-call support for HCIS application(s) as applicable.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Resource Coordination.
  • Collaborate with RDH administrative support team for scheduling and coordinating training sessions across the region.
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Maintain training rooms and technologies: ensure appropriate technology is identified, available, and in working order.
  • Schedule and/or attend meetings to support training program development and evaluation.
  • Participate in Change Management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Technological Acceptance Model (TAM).
  • Provides leadership in implementing changes at the user, department, organization, and regional level in the HCIS or through other IT implementations.
  • Consults with Provider users on complex education needs.
  • Collaborates with Regional Professional Practice Committee regarding clinical user related issues, education needs and/or regional clinical initiatives as needed.
  • Participate in Regional Digital Health Initiatives.
  • Demonstrate Personal Development.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and independence for own professional development through ongoing education opportunities.
  • Liaise with external professional organizations as applicable.

EDUCATION

  • Undergraduate degree in clinical health profession.
  • Adult education certificate/degree (preferred).
  • Current registration and good standing with professional college (as applicable).

Technical Skills

  • 3 years of related training experience (healthcare environment an asset).
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Meditech Expanse Applications an asset.
  • Experience with front end dictation (Dragon), ordering practices, and order sets an asset.
  • Experience with Adobe Captivate, or other video editing software for e-learning module development (preferred).

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with Health Care Information Systems an asset, previous Meditech Expanse implementation preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of demonstrated training, teaching, or facilitation experience in face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid learning environments.
  • Minimum 2+ years of demonstrated experience in planning and developing curriculum; designing learning experiences and lesson plans; and creating and maintaining supporting materials and documentation.
  • Knowledge and application of Adult Learning principles/theories and industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of professional guidelines and standards required.
  • Knowledge of government legislation influencing Provider practice an asset.
  • Familiarity with pertinent legislation related to institutional health care and clinicians.
  • Engaging presentation and facilitation style.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage change and foster an environment which promotes professional development.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with proven ability to tailor instruction according to learner needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and retain concepts, especially with regards to learning new technologies and systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple concurrent activities.
  • Proven experience working in and collaborating across a regional partnership.
  • Proven ability thinking quickly to solve and trouble-shoot problems.
  • Self-starter, who takes ownership of work and who can work autonomously.

Therefore, depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work weekdays and weekends, as well as all shifts - days, evenings, and nights.
