As the Leader, District Analyst, you will provide supervisory and technical leadership to Crime Analysts across Districts within the Bureau of Community Policing, under the Analytical Manager. In this role you will coach, mentor, and develop analytical staff, strengthening analytical capacity to support evidence-based decision making that enhances investigative outcomes and contributes to public safety in Calgary. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of analytical experience, leadership capability and operational insight, with the ability to guide a diverse team and elevate organizational analytical standards. The Analyst Leader will oversee the identification of crime patterns, trends, and intelligence gaps; develop strategies to reduce crime; and provide analytical leadership to investigations involving person, property, organized, and violent crime. This role will provide analytical insight to support prosecutorial outcomes, quality-assure analytical products, and guide the development of evidentiary analytical packages. Primary duties include:

  • Lead the identification of emerging crime trends, active offenders, and crime reduction priorities across the City.
  • Provide direct supervision to District Analysts, including performance reviews, coach, mentor and ongoing professional development.
  • Facilitate crime conference calls between law enforcement and key external partners.
  • Establish communication processes for sharing, tasking and prioritizing of crime and intelligence information.
  • Support application of specialized methodologies including spatial, temporal, predictive and behavioural analysis; communication analysis; social network analysis and incident command support.
  • Advance organizational understanding and use of predictive analytics to inform deployment, prioritization, intervention, and crime prevention strategies.
  • Identify training needs, development of standardized training for tactical investigative support, processes and procedures aligned with protocols set by the Analytical Manager.
  • Support development and implementation of qualitative and quantitative performance measures for unit staff.
  • Sponsor, review and direct analytical work produced by District Crime Analysts to ensure high quality, evidence-based products aligned with investigative and operational priorities.
  • Provide guidance on investigative techniques, legal considerations, and analytical standards related to court admissibility.
  • Participate in the Bureau and District Crime Management Strategy (CMS) meetings, contributing analytical insight and coordinated responses to crime and intelligence issues.

**Working Conditions:**This position involves exposure to graphic, disturbing, and offensive subject materials.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Science or a related field and a minimum of 10 years analytical work experience, which must be crime and intelligence analysis in a law enforcement context. OR;
  • A Graduate Degree in Social Sciences or a related field and a minimum of 5 years analytical work experience, which must be crime and intelligence analysis in a law enforcement context.
  • Familiarity with the criminal justice system, legislative framework, investigative procedures, protocols, and tactics is required.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Level A2 $115,627.00 - 144,534.00 per annum

Days of Work: This position works a compressed

schedule, consisting of four 8.75 hour shifts per week

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
