The Corporate Services Branch in the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training is looking for a self-motivated, reliable, client and team-oriented individual with a strong attention to detail and great communication skills to join our team as a Financial Analyst.
This position reports to and supports the Manager of Accounting. You would be responsible for providing support and training to Ministry staff regarding financial policies and procedures. You will be responsible for assisting with and preparing monthly, quarterly reports and year-end accruals as well as the coordination of purchase cards, financial reconciliations, and public accounts.
Typical functions of the position include:
- Provide accounting expertise to branches and team members within the Ministry;
- Ensure compliance with financial policy and procedures by reviewing, monitoring, and approving financial transactions;
- Maintain all financial accounts and make adjustments as required;
- Perform monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting procedures and audits;
- Retrieve data from MIDAS to prepare financial schedules and ad hoc reports using excel to support decision making and analysis as required;
- Maintain various ledgers and reconcile general ledger accounts and supplier accounts, and perform other accounting functions as required;
- Provide day to day leadership and direction to accounting unit staff with regard to monthly reconciliation processes;
- Co-ordinate BMO access, purchase card issuance and cancellations and other related tasks;
- Monitoring and reconciling of GRF bank accounts.
The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures, as well as the ability to utilize a variety of computer applications and database software including spreadsheets, word processing, Oracle Financials and BMO Spend Dynamics. You will be analytical and attentive to detail when auditing and reviewing invoices and payment requests; examining and applying policies, agreements, and regulations; and compiling analyzing and summarizing data and correcting discrepancies. You will be diplomatic when dealing with Ministry staff and suppliers, and discreet when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential information.
The knowledge and skills required for this position are typically obtained through a certificate or diploma in accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
