Job Details Position Title: Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)
Status: Contract - This is a 12-month starting contract with the possibility of renewal for up to a maximum of 3 years.
Hours: 40hrs/wk
Faculty/Department: Student Wellness & Equitable Learning – Residence Life & Education
Campus/Location: As assigned (North or Lakeshore) - live in position (in office required)
Salary: Starting $69,251.00 (+ taxable benefits)
About the Student Wellness and Equitable Learning Dept. at Humber: The Student Wellness and Equitable Learning (SWEL) department leverages a collaborative, socio-ecological model for student development and care. The cross-functional team includes Student Connection and Community Care (Office of Student Community Standards, Care Coordinators), Residence Life and Education, Testing Services, and Student Wellbeing (Accessible Learning Services, Mental Health and Counselling Services, Wellness Education and Programs, and the Health Centre). The SWEL team offer pan-College services across all Humber College/University of Guelph-Humber campuses.
Residence Life & Education (part of SWEL) works to provide safe, inclusive, innovative, and industry-leading educational services to over 1,700 residents (as of Sept. 2024) through the Residence Curriculum, Community Standards, and Community Care approaches in place, ensuring a commitment to a student-centered experience to enrich campus life.
About The Residence Life Coordinator Role The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) helps to plan, implement and evaluate all Residence Life major programs and activities for students, to ensure that the strategic and operational objectives of the Residence Life program are achieved. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Program Oversight and Implementation:
- Residence Curriculum Programming and Assigned Portfolio Programming
- Student Community Standards and Community Care
- Staff Recruitment and Training:
- Residence Life Staff (RLS) Recruitment
- Training and Development
- Supervision and Team Management:
- Student-Staff Supervision of 10-14 student staff team
- Facilitating a Quality Living Experience
Through these efforts, the RLC ensures that the Residence Life program not only meets its goals but also enhances the overall student experience within the residence community.

Education 4-year degree in Social Work, Community Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Leadership, Human Resources, Education, or a related discipline.
Experience
- 1-3 years related experience working in a residence setting at a post-secondary institution with students.
- Supervisory-related experience and experience developing programs and activities is an asset.
- Experience developing and delivering training programs.
- ASIST, First Aid/CPR, and/or Narcan/Naloxone training preferred (will be provided if not already obtained)
- Trainings and certifications such as ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, Non-crisis intervention, student conduct administration training, would be an asset.
Skills
- Ability to work well on diverse teams and lead a team of colleagues using project management principles.
- Well-developed and strong interpersonal skills (effective communication, active listening skills, etc.)
- Flexible and creative thinking, and ability to adapt approach based on scenario that could change in the moment.
- Apply conflict resolution skills, and the ability to problem solve and make difficult and informed decisions through a demonstrated ability to deal with disruptive students, belligerent supporters (e.g., parents, guardians), and stressful situations (e.g., emergency calls and response, discipline).
- Sound knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, preferably in an educational setting – including an understanding of student self-governance (i.e., Residents’ Council).
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative to solve problems on a daily basis.
