About the role

Director, FP&A

Location: St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador Work arrangement: Full-time, in person About Verlo Verlo is building the AI operating system for wealth management firms. We help financial advisory firms unify their data, deploy AI agents across their operations, and transform manual processes into controlled, compliant workflows. Verlo supports work ranging from portfolio reviews and meeting preparation to account opening, paperwork, CRM updates, and client service. We are an early-stage, rapidly growing company headquartered in St. John’s. We are looking for ambitious, hands-on people who want to help build the company behind a category-defining product.

The role

Verlo is hiring a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis to become our first strategic-finance leader. You will work directly with the CEO and COO to build Verlo’s financial-planning function, forecast the business, map the wealth-management market, and improve how we allocate capital. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role. You will be expected to build models, investigate data, challenge assumptions, and turn analysis into clear recommendations. As Verlo grows, you will help determine how the finance function develops around you. This is not a client-facing financial-planning position.

What you’ll own

Financial planning and forecasting Build and maintain Verlo’s integrated operating model. Own revenue, expense, hiring, cash flow, and runway forecasts. Lead annual planning, quarterly reforecasting, and long-range planning. Model scenarios involving hiring, pricing, fundraising, product investment, and go-to-market spending. Track actual performance against plan and explain the underlying drivers. Establish reliable financial reporting for leadership, the board, and investors.

Revenue and go-to-market planning

Develop revenue forecasts using pipeline, conversion, retention, contract value, and sales-capacity data. Determine the pipeline and sales capacity required to achieve company targets. Analyze marketing performance by channel, campaign, audience, and customer cohort. Measure acquisition cost, payback period, lifetime value, retention, gross margin, and contribution margin. Help sales and marketing leadership make decisions about budgets, territories, quotas, and hiring. Identify changes in lead quality, sales velocity, pricing, customer composition, and acquisition efficiency.

Market mapping and strategic planning

Build and maintain a detailed map of the US wealth-management market. Segment registered investment advisers by assets, firm size, geography, broker-dealer affiliation, ownership, rollup participation, and other relevant characteristics. Quantify Verlo’s addressable market and identify the segments with the greatest revenue potential. Develop account-prioritization and territory-planning frameworks. Track market consolidation, acquisitions, regulatory developments, competitive activity, and platform affiliations. Combine regulatory, CRM, financial, and third-party information into a coherent view of the market. Help leadership decide which customer segments, distribution channels, and strategic opportunities to pursue.

Strategic finance and decision support

Evaluate major company initiatives using rigorous financial analysis. Help leadership determine where additional capital will produce the greatest return. Analyze pricing, packaging, contract structure, seat expansion, and product usage. Prepare decision materials for leadership and the board. Support fundraising, investor reporting, diligence, and strategic transactions. Turn incomplete or ambiguous information into practical recommendations. Present complex analysis clearly to financial and non-financial audiences.

Financial systems and data

Define consistent financial and operating metrics across the company. Improve the connection between Verlo’s accounting, CRM, product, marketing, and market-intelligence systems. Build dashboards and recurring reporting that make important trends easy to understand. Automate recurring analysis and reporting where practical. Establish appropriate financial controls, documentation, and planning processes. Partner with engineering and operations on data infrastructure rather than functioning as the company’s data engineer.

What we’re looking for

At least seven years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, investment banking, private equity, consulting, corporate development, or a similarly analytical role. Exceptional financial modelling, forecasting, and analytical skills. Experience building integrated operating models for a software, technology, or high-growth company. Strong understanding of SaaS metrics, revenue forecasting, unit economics, and capital allocation. Ability to work with large, imperfect datasets and create dependable analysis from them. Experience preparing financial information for executives, boards, or investors. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong judgment, intellectual curiosity, and attention to detail. Comfort operating in an early-stage environment where assumptions change and systems must be built from the ground up. A willingness to remain hands-on rather than delegating the core analytical work. Ability to work in person with the Verlo team in St. John’s.

Nice to have

Experience in fintech, wealth management, financial services, or enterprise software. Experience with regulatory or market datasets. Familiarity with registered investment advisers, broker-dealers, custodians, and wealth-management platforms. Experience supporting a venture financing or investor-diligence process. Experience with CRM, business-intelligence, accounting, and data-analysis tools. Working knowledge of SQL or another analytical language. CPA, CFA, MBA, or another relevant professional designation.

What success looks like

Within your first year: Verlo has a dependable operating model used for company-wide planning. Leadership has clear revenue, cash, hiring, and runway forecasts. Financial and operating performance is reported consistently. Verlo has a comprehensive map of its addressable market. Sales territories and target accounts are supported by reliable data. Marketing and acquisition investments are evaluated using clear unit economics. Leadership can quickly understand the financial impact of major decisions. Board and investor reporting is timely, accurate, and decision-oriented. Verlo has the foundation of a finance function capable of supporting its next stage of growth.

Why join Verlo

Build the FP&A function from the ground up. Work directly with an experienced founding and operating team. Influence company strategy, hiring, pricing, fundraising, and capital allocation. Help define a new category at the intersection of AI and wealth management. Join Verlo at a stage where your work will materially shape the company. Work alongside the team in St. John’s as we build an enduring technology company in Newfoundland and Labrador. Verlo is committed to building a team with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
