Job Synopsis

Edmonton Thrift shop is seeking two qualified Retail Associates for a 32-hour/week position, and an 8-hour/week position respectively. The Retail Associate will work together with other Thrift Shop staff, volunteers, and Management in the overall operation of the Thrift Shop.

  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative, while at the same time responding to the directions of the Retail Coordinator and Manager, and willingness to work as a team with Management, staff and volunteers,
  • Strong interpersonal skills; willing and able to work with a variety of people; friendly. outgoing and appreciative of volunteers,
  • Retail experience and interest are an asset,
  • Firm commitment to accountability,
  • Understanding of cash registers and point of sales (POS) systems,
  • Able to delegate in a respectful manner.
  • High School diploma,
  • Strong maths skills,

Key Responsibilities

  • Acknowledge and greet all customers, share shop and sales events with shoppers, and create a welcoming environment and positive first impression,
  • Ensure shop policies are understood and adhered to by all team members on the retail floor,
  • Cash register responsibilities i.e. – solving cash register problems and debit errors, cashing out end of day, end of month,
  • Ability to give directions to volunteers, retail floor staff and provide basic training at cash,
  • Consult with the Retail Coordinator regarding cleaning to be done, concerns the volunteers or staff might bring to them and other needs as they arise,
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards,
  • Attend meetings and events as required,
  • Assist customers i.e. – answer questions, sell furniture, hold items,
  • Keep shop, washrooms and changerooms, clean and orderly.
  • Ensure shop is well stocked – clothes, household, shoes, furniture, linens etc. Pricing and displaying of these items.
  • Open and close shop - (making sure signs on, doors locked/unlocked, customers gone). In charge of key for opening/closing of the shop and arming/disarming the building
  • Ensure sale signs are posted,
  • And any other duties as may be assigned from time to time,

Salary Details

Base salary: $21.74

We are hiring two people for the Retail Associates position.
This position requires extended periods of time spent standing or walking. Retail Associate will interact directly with customers, dealing with their questions, concerns and complaints. This role is the first pint of contact for customers.
