Position Overview
Calian is seeking a Intermediate Custom eLearning Programmer to support our client within the Department of National Defence (DND). This is a part-time contract opportunity with approx. 100hours given a year.

Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance to DSOC staff on scenario development, acting as subject matter expert (SME) on MAK VR Forces and VBS 4 software.
- Modify Simulation Model Sets (SMS) of entities used in simulations to meet training and operational requirements.
- Manage Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) enumeration validation, including conducting coalition-level DIS comparison and testing events.
- Program keyboard shortcuts and configure peripheral equipment such as Stream Deck, joysticks, and other input devices.
- Develop solutions to address discrepancies between real-world operations and CGF software, with emphasis on Maritime/Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations, including RADAR, Electronic Warfare, Acoustics, and Sonobuoy sensor simulation.
- Support development and refinement of Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform simulations, including MQ9B, by advising on fighter force elements such as detection, strike coordination, and damage assessment.
- Integrate Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) from the Mapping & Charting Establishment (MCE) into simulation scenarios.
- Maintain thorough documentation of work products, model sets, and scenario materials in accordance with Branch IM policies.
- Provide regular verbal updates on scenario development, model, terrain, and software issues during DSOC Sync meetings.
Qualifications
- as a minimum, earned a college diploma
- acquired at least 3 years’ experience in programming web applications using Java, C language or script language, and secondary programs (file structure) and/or databases, as of the closing date and time of the resulting request for proposal
- developed and integrated at least 2 automated training or web-based training courses over the past 3 years as of the closing date and time of the resulting request for proposal
- optimized the performance of multimedia resources, including audio, video and still images for at least 2 eLearning products as of the closing date and time of the resulting request for proposal
- Recent experience with software in relation to Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) / Royal Canadian air Force (RCAF) Distributed Synthetic Training (DST) including Mission Support System, MAK VR Forces, and/or Virtual BattleSpace (VBS)
- Experience with civilian gaming systems, cloud connection, and having some form of affinity for “gamification” of distributed military Distributed Synthetic Training (DST)
Additional Requirements
- Must currently hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Government of Canada Secret Security Clearance.
- Must be a Canadian citizen.
- Ability to work on-site.
