About The Job
The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides:
Nursing care to psychiatric patients, both by working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team Enhances quality of life for the patient and family; consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers Demonstrates continuous improvement and evidence based practice in nursing practice Maintains and advances own clinical competence Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned
RPNs/RNs on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit work in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, SWs, OTs, psychology, as well as community mental health. The Inpatient Mental Health and Substance Use program assists in-patients with acute mental health challenges. We are an interdisciplinary team that places a high emphasis on wellness by teaching patients about nutrition, exercise, medications, therapy, relapse prevention and other wellness strategies. We work together with the Community Mental Health and Substance Use programs to ease transition back to the community. We are looking for a self-directed, motivated, reliable and flexible mental health-trained nurse (RN/RPN) who enjoys working in a team environment and has a strong desire to learn. This is a Relief Part Time (0.75 FTE) opportunity until October 15, 2027
Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights rotating from 07:30 to 19:30, 19:30 to 07:30 hours.
About this Location
This is an acute psychiatric unit that provides acute psychiatric care to individuals across the full spectrum of care; early psychosis, general psychiatric disorders, addictions and geriatric. The unit has a multidisciplinary structured program consisting of individual psychotherapy, ECT, psychopharmacology, psycho-educational programs, group therapy, occupational therapy programs, recreational activities, family assessments and therapy, and behaviour therapy. The programs are tailored to meet teach patient’s individual needs. Length of stay varies from 1-3 weeks. As this is a general unit we admit and work with every psychiatric presentation imaginable. 1South is a dynamic working and learning environment and we are very busy with over 750 admissions last year so every day there is something new to learn and experience. Staff education is integral to the success of this program and education initiatives are provided to increase the knowledge and skills of all staff.
