About the role

THE ROLE

Fort McKay First Nation is seeking motivated and multitasked oriented individual who is flexible and work well in a team environment to fill a full-time permanent Building Operatorposition**.** The Building Operator is responsible for all building operations, general and preventative maintenance for a variety of buildings and facilities. The incumbent ensures that building heating, cooling, mechanical and electrical systems are maintained and operated to provide a safe, and clean working environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with, and/or operate and maintain hot water boilers and other heating and cooling systems in accordance with certification level, government regulations and school division procedures. Monitor and adjust all chemical levels in the systems.

  • Assist with, and/or operate and maintain operate and maintain all heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in accordance with government regulation and as per FMFN procedures.

  • Perform non-journeyperson routine and preventative maintenance work on all equipment, devices, and furnishings. Record work as required by government agencies and FMFN procedures.

  • Regularly lift, move, and carry equipment, furniture and supplies up to 22 kg (50 lb.) alone, or if heavier, with assistance of co-workers or aids.

  • Process e-mail, maintenance requisitions, supply orders and the BAS energy management system (i.e. scheduling HVAC systems).

  • Work with and monitor contractors on building renovation and repair.

  • Assist with government and contract inspections related to fire systems, elevators, boilers, building inspections, security system, etc.

  • Practice all safety and emergency procedures.

  • Maintain WHMIS labels and MSDS updates related to operational/caretaking products.

  • Communicate any building or site deficiencies to the Operations Manager in a timely manner.

  • Participate in education, and training courses provided by FMFN.

  • Practice safe working habits always.

  • Prepare, tender, and recommend for approval service and renovation contracts.

  • Prepare and submit monthly operating activity report.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Building Operator I:

  • High school diploma or Grade 12 GED equivalent required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of building systems.

Building Operator II:

  • High school diploma or Grade 12 GED equivalent required.

  • Hold and maintain a current Class 5 Building Operator or 4th Class Alberta Power Engineering/ Building Operator Certificate.

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of building systems, including boiler systems.
