Overview

Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, invites applications for a part-time lab instructor(s) in the Department of Biology. We are hiring to teach:

Biology 1050L-FO1 Lab for Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology

Course description: An introduction to the chemical, cellular and molecular processes that enable organisms to be alive. The definition of life; the scientific method; the chemistry of life; the structure and functions of cells; photosynthesis and cellular respiration; cell division and sexual reproduction; the functions of nucleic acids and proteins; and biotechnology in agriculture and medicine. Lecture concepts are reinforced through hands-on exercises in laboratory sessions. Note: Students who have taken Biology 1110 or Biology 1130 previously cannot take Biology 1050 for credit. An additional fee (see Miscellaneous Fees) is required for this course.

Biology 4115L-FO1 Lab for Plant Ecology Disturbed Habitat

Course description: Habitat and plant community response to natural and human induced ecosystem disturbances will be discussed with special reference to type, intensity and frequency of disturbance. Particular attention will be focused on regeneration strategies of dominant plants, species diversity and composition, nearground microclimate, and changes in soil physical and chemical properties. Vulnerability and resilience of ecosystem integrity will be explained on the basis of biotic and abiotic factors with special reference to boreal forests. Remediation of adverse ecological impacts resulting from human induced disturbances will be discussed. Technical writing based on field and laboratory studies, term papers, and seminar presentations are required components of the course. Qualifications

  • A University degree in Biology is required.
  • A MSc or PhD in Biology or a closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Prior experience teaching similar content is highly preferred.
  • Experience with online or alternative modes of course delivery is highly desired.
