CAMH Foundation is charged with raising and stewarding funds in support of CAMH. THE OPPORTUNITY:
The full-time, contract (12 months) Senior Manager, Strategy and Governance plays a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of the Foundation’s multi-year strategic and revenue generation plans through effective governance, project portfolio alignment, and performance monitoring. This position focuses on the governance and integration of strategy, ensuring that Board and Board committee governance supports, all strategic projects and investments are prioritized, resourced, and evaluated in line with the organization’s long-term goals. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position will work closely with the Director, Business Intelligence and the Operations Team project management function. The role will also collaborate with cross-functional subject matter experts at various organizational levels to support the effective organizational-wide execution of the Foundation’s multi-year strategic plan and revenue generation plan. They will help ensure project portfolio execution is aligned to strategy, while maintaining clear accountability for financial oversight, portfolio prioritization, and organization-wide alignment. This position requires a collaborative, analytical, and forward-thinking professional with demonstrated experience in strategic and operational planning, strategic initiative leadership and execution, workflow transformation, financial and data analysis that guide decision-making at the leadership and volunteer levels in a healthcare philanthropic environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Plan, Revenue Generation Plan, and Operational Plan Leadership & Execution
- Lead the planning, execution, and implementation of the multi-year strategic plan and revenue generation plan, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision and long-term strategy.
- Cascading down from the strategic plan and revenue generation plan, lead the multi-year and annual operating plan processes in close collaboration with key stakeholders and peer departments resulting in the continuous improvement of key deliverables e.g. Ecosystem outlook, 5-year strategic driver and enabler dashboards, annual operating plans, annual budgets, strategic project portfolio and risk management plans.
- Lead the development of the strategic project portfolio to support effective strategic plan and revenue generation plan success inclusive of portfolio scoping and resource allocation to portfolio implementation and performance evaluation.
- Establish frameworks for linking project outcomes to strategic drivers and long-term success metrics.
- Collaborate with internal and external cross-functional teams, stakeholders and vendors to establish clear strategic project portfolio selection criteria that achieve strategic plan and revenue generation plan requirements.
- Support the alignment of organizational systems and processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of strategic planning, the strategic project portfolio, multi-year operational planning, annual operational planning, budgeting, forecasting and risk management.
- Work closely with the project management function to align individual project detailed work plans, timelines, and deliverables with the strategic project portfolio requirements.
Strategic Project Portfolio Governance
- Work closely with cross functional teams to develop the framework of policies, processes, procedures, reporting and workgroups that ensure accountability and transparency in strategic project selection and performance.
- Clearly define and evolve key roles and responsibilities to support the advancement of the strategic project portfolio for continuous improvement.
- Monitor ROI and performance metrics, providing leadership with insights to guide investment and prioritization efforts.
- Collaborate with Finance, Operations, fundraising teams and other key stakeholders to align portfolio planning with annual and multi-year budgets.
- Establish and continuously improve appropriate dashboard reporting, strategic portfolio evaluation and escalation mechanisms.
- Continuously improve strategic project portfolio accountability, transparency, consistency, efficiency and effectiveness.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Serve as a key liaison between senior leadership, the COO, and project delivery teams, ensuring strategic initiatives are clearly communicated and transparently reported.
- Build compelling presentations and communications for SLT, Board committees and other stakeholders to demonstrate progress on strategic priorities.
Organizational Change & Transformation
- Work closely with the Director, Business Intelligence to map and analyze workflows to identify opportunities for efficiency from technological and artificial intelligence advancements into the strategic project portfolio.
- Support enterprise-level change with regular touch points with Director, People and Culture and Manager, Projects and other stakeholders around tactical change adoption
- Work closely with the Manager, Projects, to establish and promote standardized project management practices and tools across the organization.
- Recommend systems and tools that enhance transparency, communication, and efficiency across project teams.
Governance
- Support the COO in ensuring effective governance practices within the organization based on healthcare philanthropic sector best practices and those required to achieve strategic plan and revenue generation plan success.
- Develop, implement and monitor the organization’s governance framework, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.
- Advise on and adapt appropriate governance policies and procedures.
- Educate and support organizational staff and stakeholders on governance obligations and best practices to help foster a culture of compliance and accountability.
Minimum Requirements
- Post-secondary education in project management, finance, business administration, operations, or a related field.
- 6+ years of progressive experience managing projects and/or project portfolios, in a cross-functional or multi-stakeholder environment.
- 2+ years of experience in providing governance supports.
- Demonstrated success in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects with financial and strategic components.
- Lean Six Sigma, Project Management certificate and/or working towards PMP designation an asset.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with budget development, financial modeling, and fiscal oversight.
- Experience with organizational change management methodologies such as Kotter and Prosci ADKAR
- Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring staff, with a focus on coaching, performance development, and team engagement
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) and experience applying them effectively based on project needs.
- Proven ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously, from planning through to execution, while managing scope, timelines, and risks.
- Experience overseeing a project portfolio, including prioritization, resource planning, and strategic alignment.
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Monday.com, Smartsheet, Asana etc.) and familiarity with collaborative platforms (e.g., Microsoft 365, MS teams, SharePoint).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to assess risks, synthesize complex information, and make sound decisions.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, with strong attention to detail.
- Confident communicator with well-developed written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to tailor communications for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration, build trust across teams, and support change management initiatives.
