You’re a force. Confident, persuasive, and sharp. The Director, Growth is the strategic driver of new business at WPP Media, leading pitches with clarity, confidence, and calm. You know how to read a room, build authentic relationships, and get buy-in from senior stakeholders. You don’t just pitch - you rally, motivate, and inspire cross-functional teams to bring their best to the table.
You thrive in ambiguity, manage a dozen spinning plates without breaking a sweat, and exude a calm focus even in high-pressure situations. Your energy is magnetic, your thinking is critical, your writing is compelling - and most of all, you make the work fun.
This role is at the center of our growth engine. You’ll be instrumental in shaping how we show up in the market, partnering with client leads, strategy, media, creative and specialty teams to craft winning pitches and compelling responses to new opportunities. You’ll also be a key player in developing internal growth processes and championing a high-performance culture grounded in collaboration, creativity, and connection.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the end-to-end pitch process for high-value opportunities—ensuring the experience is seamless, strategic, and persuasive.
- Act as the external face of WPP Media Growth—cultivating prospective relationships, responding to inbound RFPs, and building a pipeline of opportunity.
- Inspire cross-functional teams to deliver breakthrough work - rallying energy and collaboration across disciplines.
- Navigate senior stakeholder conversations with confidence, credibility, and tact - earning trust and alignment across the board.
- Craft compelling narratives and develop high-impact pitch materials that clearly articulate WPP Media’s value proposition.
- Maintain rigorous project management discipline: workbacks, deliverables, deadlines, and budgets are second nature to you.
- Champion a culture of growth internally by celebrating wins, fostering pride, and helping people see their role in driving the business forward.
- Analyze market trends, competitive intelligence, and client dynamics to proactively shape pursuit strategies.
- Monitor, track, and report on pipeline performance, identifying patterns and opportunities for improvement.
- Bring a sense of humor, humility, and human touch to everything you do.
Who You Are
- A natural connector with exceptional interpersonal skills; you build relationships with ease and adapt to different personalities and working styles.
- Exceptionally organized, deadline-driven, and unfazed by shifting priorities or ambiguous asks.
- A compelling communicator, especially when it comes to writing. You can distill complex ideas into crisp, persuasive language.
- Comfortable in a matrixed organization, working fluidly across agencies, capabilities, and client categories.
- You think critically, challenge the status quo, and see both the forest and the trees.
- A high EQ leader who knows how to motivate a room, whether it’s in a tense review, a creative brainstorm, or a 9 p.m. deck sprint.
- Comfortable having a strong point of view, but open enough to hear a better one.
- Passionate about great work, good people, and pushing the business forward.
- Experienced in the media/creative agency world
- Bonus: client-side or client-facing experience is an asset.
What You Bring
- Minimum 6+ years of experience, with at least 2+ years focused on business development or growth functions
- Experience working within an advertising, media, or creative agency is required
- Proven ability to lead complex projects from pitch to close
- Deep understanding of the Canadian media landscape and competitive agency environment
- Strong business acumen, analytical rigor, and attention to detail
- A natural problem-solver who thrives in fast-moving, ever-changing environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint (because, let's be real…)
