Shift: (Afternoons) Monday- Friday; 4:00pm-11:30pm

SUMMARY

The Dispatch Assistant position co-ordinates loads, drivers, deliveries, and pick-ups in the Toronto service area. They are responsible for being familiar with and being able to cover for all the traffic and dispatch functions within the Mississauga Terminal.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Have full knowledge of Erb Transport computer dispatch systems and coordinate with the dispatch team to ensure loads are delivered on time based on appointments and efficiencies.
  • Responsible for the knowledge of the delivery schedules and coordination of pickups as it pertains to the Mississauga terminal and throughout Ontario/Quebec.
  • Dispatch drivers efficiently with regards to hours of service, power unit availability, company policies and safety regulations.
  • Consult regional dispatch and dock personnel as to equipment, load requirements, priority of moves and customer obligations. Set priorities with incoming and outgoing loads in computer.
  • Assist in answering incoming phone calls and emails. Answer customer requests as they pertain to Mississauga Operations.
  • Communicate with the team to ensure a smooth cross-over and to ensure product is moved quickly and effectively.
  • Provide coverage for check-in, routing, outsider drop off/pickups and dispatch staff as required.
  • Verify reefer checks to prevent any discrepancies or claims and maintain records on trailer locations.
  • Assist terminal personnel with any operational inquiries and complete reports as required by the operation team and Terminal Manager.
  • Communicate with management regarding progression of business and updates along with any major customer, equipment and or staff issues.
  • Aid OS&D and Check-in to ensure any conflicts are resolved in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with the data entry/admin team to make certain loads are processed as quickly and accurately as possible
  • All other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with MS Office applications required and AS400 preferred.
  • Previous experience in a dispatcher role considered an asset.
  • Strong time management and organization skills required.
  • Excellent people skills are required to provide quality customer service (internal and external).
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy required.
  • Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines within a busy environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
