The Logistics & Customs Coordinator is responsible for the efficient coordination of inbound and outbound transportation, while supporting customs documentation and trade compliance activities. This role ensures the timely movement of goods, accurate preparation of shipping and customs documentation, and alignment with applicable transportation and import/export regulations.
This position requires strong organizational capability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple shipments, carriers, and documentation requirements in a fast-paced environment. The role works closely with carriers, customs brokers, warehouse teams, and internal departments to ensure smooth and compliant logistics operations.
Requirements
Transportation Coordination
- Plan and schedule transportation for inbound and outbound shipments across all warehouse locations
- Select carriers and coordinate freight within budget and target freight cost parameters
- Monitor shipment status and proactively manage delays, escalations, and delivery risks
- Support outbound shipping operations to ensure alignment with customer requirements and timelines
- Ensure freight costs align with agreed rates and investigate discrepancies
Customs & Trade Documentation
- Prepare and review export and shipping documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin where applicable)
- Coordinate with customs brokers to ensure timely clearance of shipments
- Ensure documentation accuracy to support smooth cross-border movement of goods
- Maintain organized records of all import/export documentation for audit and compliance purposes
Tariff Classification & Compliance
- Support tariff (HS code) classification for products based on established internal guidelines
- Validate and maintain product classification data in coordination with supply chain and finance
- Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable import/export regulations (Canada, U.S., and international as applicable)
- Stay current on basic trade regulations, Incoterms, and cross-border requirements
- Escalate complex classification or compliance issues to appropriate internal or external experts (e.g., brokers, consultants)
Scheduling & Shipment Visibility
- Develop and maintain shipment schedules to ensure on-time delivery performance
- Track shipments and provide regular updates to internal stakeholders
- Communicate delays, risks, and changes clearly and proactively
- Maintain visibility tools or trackers for inbound and outbound freight
Problem Solving & Issue Resolution
- Resolve transportation and customs-related issues, including delays, damages, or documentation gaps
- Coordinate with carriers and brokers to minimize disruptions
- Identify root causes of recurring issues and support corrective actions
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, documentation accuracy, and cost control
- Support implementation of process improvements (systems, workflows, or vendor performance)
- Stay informed on logistics, transportation, and trade compliance best practices
What we are looking for:

Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
-
2–5 years of experience in transportation/logistics coordination
-
Working knowledge of import/export processes and documentation
-
Intermediate understanding of tariff classification (HS codes), Incoterms, and cross-border shipping requirements

Experience working with customs brokers and freight carriers
-
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Syspro) and Microsoft Office (Excel required)

Strong attention to detail, particularly with documentation accuracy

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Strong communication and coordination skills across internal and external stakeholders

Problem-solving mindset with the ability to escalate appropriately when needed
