Job Posting: Thrift Store Cashier Hours: 3 -4 days per week, some Saturdays included Wage: $19.00/hour
About the Position We are seeking a reliable, customer-focused Cashier to support our Merchandising team to ensure an organized, welcoming, and profitable retail environment. The ideal candidate has completed Secondary School, enjoys working with the public, thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting, and is committed to loss prevention/ social disorder strategies. This role involves working with a variety of individuals, including students and individuals with challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Cashiering & Customer Service
- Open and close the till as required
- Operate POS system, debit, and credit machines
- Assist customers, provide information on sales, and direct clients seeking additional services
- Help diffuse difficult customer situations using strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
- Promote store values and educate the public about how donations support the community
Teamwork & Administration
- Collaborate with the sales team to ensure consistent service
- Support loss-prevention procedures
- Troubleshoot POS or system issues as needed
- Work with minimal supervision
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Cashier experience and strong customer service background
- Ability to count cash accurately
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work with difficult situations and help diffuse conflict
- Excellent oral communication
- Ability to work safely in a busy environment with limited space
- Sound judgment in evaluating donated merchandise
- Ability to lift 25 lbs or more occasionally
- Friendly, outgoing, team-oriented attitude
- Must consent to a criminal record check
- Thrift store experience and knowledge of typical pricing would be an asset.
