About the role
Please note: This is a 12-month temporary position.
This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means one day on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.
As ATB’s next Internal Assurance Partner, you will be responsible to plan and conduct assurance and advisory engagements to assess whether key controls are in place to mitigate risk and safeguard the assets of ATB Financial. Areas of emphasis include strategic, operational, financial and compliance related risk management responsibilities across diverse portfolios including:
- ATB Capital Markets
- Business Banking
- Wealth Advisory
- ATB Investment Management Inc.
- ATB Everyday Financial Services
Accountabilities
Audit Strategy Development and Implementation
- Develop and implement audit strategies to assess effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.
- Conduct operational, compliance and integrated controls assurance and advisory services to identify opportunities to enhance ATB’s performance while reducing risk.
- Prepare engagement work programs and supporting documentation including scope, approach, engagement letters, test sheets, working papers, audit findings and final reports.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Utilize formal and informal communication channels and tools to connect with key personnel and management, informing them of engagement progress and results.
- Conduct planning meetings to gain the necessary knowledge of business processes, stakeholders and associated key risks and controls.
- Facilitate ongoing meetings and exit conferences with stakeholder management to communicate significant observations and concerns, ensuring management's views are understood and reflected.
- Prepare and distribute formal reports in a timely manner that outline issues, provide recommendations and identify opportunities for improvement to appropriate parties, in accordance with departmental standards.
- Ensure significant control concerns are addressed by stakeholder management within a reasonable timeframe.
Skills, experience & requirements
- Experience & Foundational Expertise: Possesses a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in internal/external audit or risk management roles, demonstrating a robust understanding and practical application of audit principles, risk management concepts and control standards. Alternatives may be considered.
- Communication & Professional Agility: Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of adapting to diverse audiences and stakeholders. Exhibits strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, effectively problem-solve and work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
- Business & Industry Knowledge: Has a solid background in the financial services sector. Experience in either of the following will be considered assets: 1) Capital Markets working with investment bankers, broker dealers and/or exchanges, or 2) Retail/Business Banking with specific expertise in credit and/or operational activities.
- Technology & Analytics Proficiency: Proficiencies collecting and interpreting large data sets to identify emerging trends, understanding and mitigating biases and creating impactful data visualizations to support decision-making are also desired key skills.
