RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
The incumbent will support the execution and development of scientific projects, with a primary focus on studying placental vascular development and testing angiogenic peptides. The role involves both in vitro (cell culture, imaging, molecular biology) and in vivo methodologies. Reporting to the principal investigator, the associate will also manage administrative tasks such as budgeting, meeting coordination, and drafting protocols and grant applications. They will supervise lab members, train new recruits, and contribute to method development, data analysis, and manuscript preparation, while engaging in collaborative research at local and international levels.

General Duties
INTRODUCTION AND ROLE:

The incumbent will support the execution and development of scientific projects, with a primary focus on studying placental vascular development and testing angiogenic peptides. Reporting to the principal investigator, the associate will also manage administrative tasks such as budgeting, meeting coordination, and drafting protocols and grant applications. They will supervise lab members, train new recruits, and contribute to method development, data analysis, and manuscript preparation, while engaging in collaborative research at local and international levels.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scientific research execution:

  • Actively participates in the implementation and advancement of ongoing research projects,

  • Main focus includes investigating mechanisms of placental vascular development and testing new peptides that stimulate angiogenesis,

  • Conducts both in vitro experiments (e.g., cell culture, imaging, molecular biology) and in vivo studies to assess peptide effects on placental development.

Administrative coordination: Manages project-related administrative tasks such as:

  • Budget planning and tracking,

  • Scheduling and organizing meetings and discussion groups,

  • Drafting official documents including grant applications, protocols, and meeting minutes.

Team support and supervision:

  • Provides guidance and oversight to lab members working on related research projects,

  • Trains new team members, including students and staff, ensuring they are familiar with lab procedures and research protocols.

Method development and problem solving:

  • Designs and refines research methodologies and experimental protocols,

  • Identifies and resolves scientific and technical challenges related to study design and data collection,

  • Develops models and performs simulations to support experimental findings.

Reporting and dissemination:

  • Reviews and interprets research findings, prepares detailed reports, and contributes to manuscript writing for publication,

  • Participates in collaborative efforts with local, national, and international research partners.

Project oversight:

  • Supports the principal investigator in managing the daily operations of research projects,
  • May be asked to perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor to ensure smooth project execution.

Education / Experience

Education: Doctorate Degree
Field of Study: Biomedical sciences
Other education considered an asset for this position:
Work Experience: minimum one year after obtaining PhD (as research assistant or associate)

Required Skills

  • Excellent French and English, spoken and written,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)

Pay Scale: $55,692.00 - $103,412.40 Commensurate with education and experience

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
Work Site: GLEN Site, 1001 boul. Decarie
