About the role

Status: Permanent, Full-Time

Work schedule: Monday to Friday, from 6:45 am to 3:15 pm Plus on-call rotation. ***May require overtime during peak periods

Work location: 349 Willow Street, Truro, NS, B2N5A6

The Maintenance Supervisor, who reports to the Feed Mill Manager, is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance operations and ensuring the efficient functioning of all equipment and facilities. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, preventative maintenance techniques, and supervisory skills to lead a team of skilled technicians.

YOUR ROLE

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the maintenance team to ensure timely and effective repair and maintenance of equipment;
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency;
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment, diagnosing problems and performing necessary repairs;
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs;
  • Train and mentor maintenance staff, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge required for their roles;
  • Coordinate with production managers to prioritize maintenance tasks and support continuous operations;
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring availability when needed;
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment;
  • Assist in budget preparation for maintenance activities and manage expenditures to remain within budget;
  • Contributing to the safety and security of feed mill employees by actively participating in health and safety programs, safety committees and staff training to ensure adherence to company fire, safety and security policies and procedures;
  • Participating in the FeedAssure program, following the program and sitting on the FeedAssure committee;

YOUR ASSETS

  • Industrial millwright License or mechanical trade certificate;
  • Dual trade ticket with Electrical license (Asset);
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a feed mill or similar environment;
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills;
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues;
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and techniques;
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and tools;
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to regulatory standards;
  • Must be comfortable with heights and confined spaces;
  • Work is performed in an industrial setting, with exposure to machinery and noise;
  • Requires physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment.
