Position Title: General Manager Location: Calgary, Alberta Job Type: Full Time Permanent Position Summary: Reporting to the President or designate The General Manager – WorldSource is responsible for leading the company’s global protein sourcing and trading business, with full accountability for commercial performance, supply chain execution, and operational oversight. This role serves as the organization’s subject matter expert on international protein markets, market pricing, supply availability, and sourcing strategies. The General Manager will drive profitability, strengthen global supplier relationships, and ensure alignment between sourcing, sales, and operational objectives. Key Responsibilities: Business & Financial Leadership Own full P&L performance of the WorldSource business unit. Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to the Sales Team. Manage key customer relationships and maintain direct responsibility for key accounts. Oversee and optimize three sales channels: inter-site, inter-company, external. Drive revenue growth, margin optimization, and cost management initiatives. Participate in enterprise financial reporting, forecasting, and business planning activities. Global Sourcing & Commercial Strategy Develop and execute sourcing strategies for global protein categories, including beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and seafood. Identify and secure supply opportunities aligned with demand and market conditions. Provide pricing forecasts, market intelligence, and product availability updates. Establish and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers. Conduct supplier audits, site visits, and business reviews to ensure quality, compliance, and supply continuity. Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and international business events. Market Intelligence & Pricing Leadership Monitor global protein markets and industry trends affecting supply and pricing. Translate market insights into purchasing, pricing, and sales strategies. Serve as key advisor on market conditions, opportunities, and risks. Operations & Supply Chain Oversight Oversee procurement processes, including purchase orders, inventory costing, and product flow. Manage inventory levels across all applicable product categories and SKUs. Lead and maintain relationships with third-party logistics providers to ensure efficient supply chain operations. Manage import quotas, regulatory requirements and related negotiations as required. Team Leadership & Organizational Management Lead, coach, and manage cross-functional teams, while fostering accountability and performance. Oversee hiring, onboarding, and employee relations. Cross-Functional Alignment Partner with branch leadership teams to align purchasing, inventory planning and business initiatives. Support organizational initiatives, including ERP implementation, process optimization, and continuous improvement projects. Stakeholder Engagement Communicate market updates, business performance, and industry trends to internal stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, business partners, customers, and internal stakeholders. Represent the organization in industry and customer facing engagements. Additional duties as required. Qualifications and Skills: Extensive knowledge of global protein markets, international trade, and supply chain management. Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated expertise in pricing strategy, business development, and market analysis. Proven experience managing procurement, inventory, costing, and supply chain operations. Ability to translate complex market intelligence into actionable business decisions. Strong understanding of meat cuts, specifications, pricing structures, and market dynamics. Demonstrated success in sales, negotiation and supplier relationship management.
