Edmonton Catholic Schools is looking for a temporary Labourer - Maintenace to join the Facility Services Team! The job performs a range of duties to support the Division’s job and/or construction activities. The job works as part of a team and receives direction from senior Facilities Services staff. The work is carried out using basic power/manual tools and equipment. The job also provides support to other department staff to handle peak workloads, large projects and cover-off during absences.
Work is guided by department standards and practices; construction and job standards and principles and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S); Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS); Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations; Division/department policies and procedures and the Division’s goals and objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist senior staff in construction, job and repair functions as directed;
- Assist with grounds and landscaping work and job;
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding;
- Assist department staff with a variety of large projects, peak workloads and provide cover-off during absences;
- Assist in the cleanup of worksites;
- Ensure tools and equipment are operating properly and report those that are not;
- Ensure worksites are clean and maintained within safety standards;
- Estimate materials required, monitor use and keep time and materials records;
- Ensure materials and tools are safely operated and stored at all times;
- Secure building as required depending on worksite requirements.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma;
- Previous labourer experience in a maintenance setting will be considered an asset;
- Knowledge of the safe use of basic power tools and manual tools;
- Knowledge of basic construction, job and landscaping techniques;
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) regulations and of regulations governing Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG);
- Knowledge of Edmonton and area with a well-developed understanding of road and traffic systems;
- General knowledge of the Division’s operations, school programs and location of schools is required;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft programs – Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet is required;
- Physically able to complete the duties of the job using appropriate lifting tools and techniques and the ability to lift up to 30 Kg. (66 lb.);
- Ability to work form a scaffold, ladder or in a crawl space;
- Fluency in the English language including both oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Flexibility to meet the varying demands of the job with varying tasks and priorities;
- Ability to exercise tact, courtesy and good judgment when dealing with various supervisors and co-workers;
- Valid Alberta driver’s license and the ability to travel to various sites within Edmonton and surrounding areas;
- Ability to provide a clean Driver’s Abstract upon hire and as requested.
Temporary position until April 2026 with the possibility of extension
