Job Summary
The Can-SOLVE CKD Network is Canada’s largest-ever kidney research initiative. It is a national partnership of patients, researchers, health care providers, and policy-makers working to transform treatment and care for Canadians affected by chronic kidney disease. The network is changing the culture of kidney research by coordinating and conducting 27 innovative projects shaped by patients’ experiences and priorities. It is also creating resources and national infrastructure that enhance Canada’s ability to lead innovative kidney health research.
Can-SOLVE CKD is one of five chronic disease networks supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research through Canada’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). Funding is also provided by more than 60 partners, including provincial kidney care agencies, health charities, universities, and pharmaceutical companies. The network’s second phase (2022-2027) is funded by a total of $11.8 million obtained from federal and partner sources.
Can-SOLVE CKD comprises more than 450 research team members and more than 75 patient partners across Canada. This large, multi-disciplinary team is supported by a core operations team that oversees the day-to-day work of all research projects, committees, and workgroups, ensuring that the network’s key deliverables are achieved on time and within budget.
The Project Coordinator will provide operational coordination to Can-SOLVE CKD, specifically for the Canadian Nephrology Trials Network, one of the Can-SOLVE CKD infrastructures. This includes working with network committees to define strategy, goals, and scope of the work, managing budgets, as well as monitoring and reporting plan progress.
Organizational Status
The Project Coordinator works with the co-chairs of the CNTN and the Can-SOLVE CKD Project Manager to plan and oversee project work. Functional reporting is to the Project Manager.
He/She/They works closely with the core operations team and key interest holders and partner organizations across Canada.
Work Performed
Canadian Nephrology Trials Network
The Project Coordinator works primarily with the Canadian Nephrology Trials Network, managing the activities to ensure success of Network activities. Key activities include:
- Accountable for the effective operations of the Canadian Nephrology Trials Network
- Manages detailed long- and short-term work plans based on committee priorities and goals, monitors and reports on the progress of the work against plans, alerts committee if the work is behind schedule, over budget or out of scope, identifies any areas of concern and participates in the development of mitigation strategies.
- Leads development and implementation of mitigation strategies. Consults with the Project Manager as needed, escalating problems or issues, as well as making recommendations for resolutions.
- Documents work, including documenting t milestones, task lists, and assigned resources. Works with the Administrative Coordinator to maintain the document management systems for CNTN.
- Facilitates regular committee meetings and annual in-person meetings.
- Onboards new committee members, both researchers and patient partners.
- Coordinates and ensures collection of data on indicators according to the performance management strategy
- Works closely with other members of the core operations team, including the Finance Manager, to prepare necessary funder specific reports and develop forecasts for current and future fiscal years, based on committee workplans.
- Acts as the central hub of communications between the core operations team and committees.
- Acts as the liaison for the ACT Consortium, ensuring info and funding opportunities are shared with the CNTN, including provision of letters of support as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
African Caribbean Black (ACB) Program
- Responsible for developing the ACB engagement strategy and work plans, in collaboration with the working group.
- Coordinates and guides project planning and documentation, including timelines, task lists, assigned resources, tracking and reporting progress.
- Facilitate regular committee meetings and annual in-person meetings.
- Assists with identification of potential funding opportunities.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Work requires initiative, creativity, and attention to detail. The incumbent must be capable of managing and coordinating many tasks related to multiple complex projects. The position requires considerable judgment in the management of project priorities, schedules, and resource requirements. This position must also be able to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Accuracy is essential since errors may have implications that could negatively affect the project, the patient community, stakeholders, future funding, and the reputation of the Network and key stakeholders.
Supervision Received
The Project Coordinator is required to work with minimal supervision on a day-to-day basis with input from the Project Manager. The role reports directly to the Project Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
