Association Manager
About the role
Association Manager
Essentient Association Management | Greater Toronto Area (Remote, GTA-based required) | Full-time | Start: October 2026
About the Role
At Essentient Association Management, no two days are ever the same—and that's exactly how we like it. We partner with member-based organizations across Canada, becoming the team behind the team that helps Boards lead, members engage, and associations thrive. As an Association Manager, you'll wear many hats: advising volunteer leaders one day, developing member communications the next, solving a technology challenge, supporting governance, reviewing financial reports, or helping bring a new strategic initiative to life.
If you're energized by variety, love solving problems, and enjoy being the person others rely on to make things happen, you'll feel right at home here.
This is not a specialist role. It's a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-many opportunity for someone who has developed a broad foundation in association management and is comfortable moving seamlessly between governance, membership, communications, events, finance, and operations. You'll have the autonomy to take ownership, the opportunity to learn continuously, and the satisfaction of knowing that your work has a direct impact on the success of multiple organizations.
What You'll Own
Governance & board support — agenda prep, minute-taking, board packages, policy tracking, and being the steady hand that keeps a volunteer board organized Membership management — recruitment, retention, renewals, and the day-to-day member experience (including the AMS/CRM that runs it) Financial oversight — budget tracking, invoicing, dues processing, and working with bookkeepers/auditors on annual financials Events & meetings — from a 20-person committee meeting to a multi-day annual conference: logistics, vendor management, registration, and on-site execution Communications — newsletters, member emails, website updates, and the occasional social media post Client relationships — you may support multiple association clients simultaneously, each with its own board, culture, and priorities
What We're Looking For
3–7 years of direct experience in association management, nonprofit management, or a comparable membership-based organization — not general office administration or unrelated project coordination Demonstrated experience across at least three of the core areas above (governance support, membership, finance, events, communications) Comfort working with multiple stakeholders/clients at once and shifting priorities accordingly Based in the Greater Toronto Area — this is a remote-friendly role, but you must be local enough to attend in-person board meetings, member events, and occasional office days Strong independent judgment — you'll often be the only staff person supporting a given client, so you need to know when to act and when to escalate A CAE (Certified Association Executive) designation, or active pursuit of one, is an asset but not required
To Apply
Please note: we review applications individually and do not use automated screening. To help us get to know you quickly and to keep the process fair for serious candidates, we ask that your application include: A resume that shows specific association/nonprofit management experience (not just job titles — tell us what you actually did) A short cover note (150–250 words) answering: "Describe one time you had to juggle competing priorities across more than one project or client. What did you do first, and why?"
Confirmation of your GTA location and your availability to start in October 2026
Applications that don't include the cover note response will not be reviewed. We're a small, hands-on team, and we'd rather read fewer, more thoughtful applications than skim hundreds of generic ones.
Compensation: commensurate with experience within a competitive range for this role in the Ontario AMC sector; details discussed with shortlisted candidates.
