About the role

Our Service Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the service operations of Welding, Field Sales Support, and Mechanical Services. This role plays a key part in managing day-to-day activities, developing long-term strategies, and implementing processes that ensure a positive experience for both internal and external customers. We are looking for a candidate who brings strong industry knowledge, leadership, and communication skills to drive the success of our team.

Location: On-site at our Timmins, ON branch
Salary Range: $125,000 - $130,000 per year, plus incentive plan
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee all service operations, including welding, mechanical services, field support, installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Manage Work Orders (WO) and Work-in-Progress (WIP) to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient service delivery.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing service team, fostering growth, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets, track performance, and drive continuous improvement across parts operations.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by enforcing health and safety policies and participating in safety programs.
  • Collaborate with sales to build service quotes, contracts, and cost agreements that meet customer needs.
  • Oversee warranty administration, cost recovery, and risk management for service operations.
  • Partner with operations to plan schedules, optimize productivity, and monitor service performance and financial results.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring timely resolution of service and warranty issues.
  • Coordinate with parts, warehouse, and purchasing teams to meet service and equipment needs.
  • Maintain accurate service data, track performance metrics, and resolve reporting or information issues.

This position is classified as a Mid-Level Leader role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of both core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise) and leadership competencies (people leadership, managing through change and uncertainty, and influence.)

What You Bring

The successful applicant will have 8–10 years of experience in large construction or mining operations, including significant supervisory experience and prior experience leading leaders. Experience managing teams of 30+ people and involvement in startup or greenfield operations is an asset.

Other key qualifications include:

  • Proven leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and managing large teams.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing operational strategies, processes, and performance improvements.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills to meet deadlines and drive results.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and welding trade operations, maintenance, and repair practices.
  • Good understanding of financial statements, and ability to manage expenses, budget, analyze financial data, and oversee contracts, parts management, and quality programs.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across teams, customers, and stakeholders.
