Position Summary

The Continuing Care Program is currently seeking a Casual Orderly to join their team.

Effective Date: February 16, 2026

The orderly is a member of a unit based coordinated care team who assists patients with specific aspects of their activities of daily living; leisure, and maintains unit supplies and equipment.

An orderly is accountable for activities relating to the general areas of delivery of patient care, environmental services and dietary support.

The position of Orderly is also responsible for activities as delegated by the Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse. Works under the direction of the registered nursing staff in assisting with planning, organizing and coordination daily living activities in consultation with families and other members of the team.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school Diploma, Grade 12
  • Will have recent experience working with the geriatric population and or chronic care residents in a health care facility
  • Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrates appreciation for the specialized physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of an elder population
  • Demonstrates ability to take direction and work collaboratively within a team environment for the benefit of the patient/resident
  • Excellent communication skills; demonstrated ability to deal effectively and cooperatively with all levels of staff, patients and the public
  • Good physical and mental health. Demonstrates maturity and tactfulness
  • Demonstrated communication, organizational and time management skills
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Knowledge of, body mechanics, and safe lift and transfers
  • Basic knowledge of established Infection Control processes and occupational health and safety practices
  • Trained in EPIC or must be willing to train and pass testing

Hours of Work

Current rotation of 6.5 and 8 hour day and evening shifts, Monday through Sunday. Shifts and hours may vary according to departmental requirements and as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
