**ROLE SUMMARY:**This position is responsible to the Manager of Nursing Services and reports to the LPN Team Leader. The Resident Care Aide assists the Residents to maintain as close to a home like environment as possible. The duties will be “need and situation orientated” as opposed to the conventional demarcation of duties between disciplines, to meet the Residents’ physical, emotional and psychosocial needs. The Resident Care Aide functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**Provides personal care to Residents such as assisting the Resident with bathing; dressing, care of skin and hair; assisting with toilet needs; overseeing exercise routines.Assists residents with meals: serves meals, serves and collects meal trays, and feeds designated residents.Transports residents utilizing mechanical aids such as overhead lifts, mechanical lifts, wheelchairs, walkers, and/or stretchers.Performs nursing procedures such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration, administering suppositories and enemas, obtaining specimens such as urine, administers non-sterile dressings.Records care and observations.Reports problems, changes and/or concerns to LPN Team Leader and/or Director of Care.Accompanies residents on outings and during social activities and provides assistance as required.Communicates effectively with other department staff concerning Resident status.Works cooperatively with other staff and departments to ensure Resident care needs, including dietary and activation program needs, are met.Attends relevant committee meetings, including Resident Care Aide meetings, and In-service Education.Participates in student training and orientation.Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education, Training and Experience
Grade 10, plusGraduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to organize work.Ability to operate related equipment.
