About the Team: Huawei Canada's Advanced Optical Technology Lab focuses on advanced R&D in high-performance optical communications and networking. Our expert team specializes in transmission algorithms, systems, physics, and optical network management. About the Job:
- Explore innovative photonic technologies and contribute to the development of advanced interconnects and system-level optimizations.
- Contribute to research and evaluation of optical and photonic technologies for AI compute interconnects.
- Analyze technology trends and support feasibility studies on applying optics to distributed AI workloads.
- Assist in prototyping, testing, and validating new concepts in collaboration with design and product teams.
- Support modeling of system-level performance and explore how photonic advances can improve computing efficiency.
- Document findings and contribute to technical discussions and reports.
Job requirements
About the ideal candidate:
- Master’s or PhD degree in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in at least one area: photonic integration, optical interconnects, fiber optics, or optical telecommunication systems.
- Familiarity with AI computing (e.g., GPU clusters for LLM training) and an interest in how compute requirements connect to interconnect technologies.
- Ability to learn quickly and contribute to cross-disciplinary projects.
- Industry or project related experience in optical communication systems, photonics, or system-level optimization is an asset.
- Expertise in LLM and AI computing at scale is an asset.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to collaborate across teams is an asset.
