About the role

Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Financial & Registration Services, the Controller plays a role in managing accounting operations to ensure compliance with institutional policies, supervising various accounting staff, and monitoring internal controls and month-end closures. The role involves overseeing fund accounting for endowments and grants, coordinating audits, ensuring compliance, and preparing transparent disclosures and responses. Other responsibilities include institutional and external reporting, financial forecasting, benchmarking, and supervising ad hoc reporting. The position identifies process improvements, policy development, and financial literacy initiatives while ensuring data integrity, supporting system integration, automation, cash flow forecasting, leading change management during upgrades, and performing all other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a CPA designation, a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or similar discipline, along with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a similar role as well as relevant supervisory experience overseeing accounting functions. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience within a post-secondary environment is preferred.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and support staff effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaborating with internal departments and external stakeholders. The role requires a high level of organizational ability, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. Candidates should be adaptable, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities with tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Salary: Managers & Professional Officers MPO -VI, $101,175.00
