Reporting to the Field Supervisor, the Water and Sewer Heavy Equipment Operator - Entry position is responsible for the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of the City's Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems infrastructure. This role requires 2080 working hours annually and involves close collaboration with other departmental and City employees, along with maintaining positive and professional interactions with the public.
Your key responsibilities
- Participates in the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of all department infrastructure.
- Operates up to Class 4 vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform weekend duties and call-out responsibilities as needed.
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the Field Supervisor or designate.
What you bring
- Knowledge of current industry practices, materials, equipment, and methods used in the installation, operation, and repair of water and wastewater systems.
- Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and City policies.
- Ability to effectively operate heavy equipment, including Class 4 equipment, and maintain tools and equipment safely.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a demonstrated ability to maintain accurate work records.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand and execute both written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a variety of outdoor conditions, including extreme weather.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of Grade 12 or a high school equivalency diploma.
- Minimum of three years experience operating Class IV equipment (excavators)in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Possession of a valid Class 3 Alberta motor vehicle operator's license with air endorsement and a satisfactory driving record.
- Valid Standard First Aid certificate and a current Defensive Driving course.
- This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
