This position is located at Atura’s hydrogen production facility the Niagara Hydrogen Centre located in Niagara Falls, ON. Job Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Day Shift Assistant Relief Operator (DSARO) will strive to enhance the province of Ontario’s quality of life by providing safe, clean, hydrogen production as part of the Clean Energy initiatives in Ontario. This role will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our employees and our neighbours, be a team player, possess strong leadership and analytical aptitude, show attention to detail, have excellent communication skills, be willing to take part in continuing education, be creative, think logically, have good problem-solving skills, and have excellent technical knowledge. This position is represented by the Power Workers Union.
Responsibilities
The DSARO will fill the role of Chief Operating Engineer for the facility as defined by the Operating Engineer’s regulation Ontario Regulation 219/01. Typical duties and responsibilities include but are not inclusive of overseeing shift operations of the Niagara Hydrogen Centre, troubleshooting technical issues and applying operational skills in maximizing energy production and efficiency. This includes the application of problem-solving skills in real time, managing outage activities and aiding in the development of and adherence to operation procedures. The position requires an operator with strong education, knowledge, and experience in the operation of power equipment, gas equipment, auxiliaries and its operational impact on station performance. Accountabilities will include overseeing the activities of assigned staff and planning, organizing, and assigning tasks to ensure the continuous safe, efficient, and economical operation of the Niagara Hydrogen Centre
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to:

Oversee the daily operation of the facility working 8 hour dayshift Monday to Friday
-
Operate equipment safely and reliably, in accordance with O. Reg. 219/01. Execute start-up, shutdown and operation of the plant consistent with Atura Power operating procedures
-
Daily work planning including (but not limited to) the following activities:
- Communications with the Commercial team, Hydro One, OPG, Hydrogen Customers and all other operations stakeholders
- Completion of Maximo work orders
- Completion of all site documentation requirements including the Shift Engineer Log as required by OE Reg 219/01, ensuring completeness and accuracy according to all NHC procedures and policies.
- Shift changeover communication & documentation as necessary.
- Review of all shift logs

Training of new employees

Engagement of Atura Power personnel as required to support critical management system processes including (but not limited to) the following:

Management of Change
-
Hazard Identification
-
Safety Observations
-
Work Authorizations / JSA`s

Oversee and carry out all operating, monitoring and reporting activities for all units, common and auxiliary equipment, and systems associated with the electrolysers, compressors, water treatment train, electrical equipment and balance of plant auxiliaries
-
Assist in the loading of Hydrogen trailers at varying pressures at the Hydrogen loading station
-
Coordinate and prioritize shift work activities in conjunction with the planning/work management function.

Administer and oversee LOTO.
-
Adhere and operate according to all current Operating and Off Normal Operating Procedures.

Communicate effectively through our computerized maintenance management system and be familiar with PLC/DCS/HMI interfaces
-
Participate in the establishment and achievement of plant operational objectives
-
Responsibly perform various safety functions including lockout, hazard assessment/job safety analysis, active control of contractors
-
Participate in routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment
Qualifications/Competencies:
-
Minimum: Recognized interprovincial 3rd Class Power (Operating) Engineer Certificate
-
3 Years experience in combined/simple cycle power plants, industrial gas or chemical facilities
-
Team player attitude, ready to collaborate and participate
This position requires candidates to:

Have and maintain a valid driver’s license
-
Provide a criminal background check for employment
Physical Requirements:

Lift 50 pounds
-
Ascend/descend stairs multiple times during a 12 hour shift and climb ladders
