The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for managing and implementing the Green Line SE Project Environmental Program to ensure environmental protection and regulatory compliance throughout design, procurement, and construction. The position provides subject matter expertise and oversight to identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks associated with major infrastructure construction activities. This role supports the integration of environmental requirements into project planning, contract documentation, and construction execution in alignment with municipal, provincial, and federal legislation and City of Calgary policies. Primary Duties include:

  • Provide environmental oversight for Green Line SE construction activities by identifying, assessing, and managing environmental risks and impacts. Support the development and implementation of the project's environmental framework, policies, and key performance indicators in alignment with City of Calgary requirements and applicable legislation. Monitor regulatory and industry developments and recommend
  • Review design drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, standards, policies, and best practices. Contributes environmental input into design development, procurement documentation, schedules, and technical requirements. Oversee the Permit, License, Approval, Authorization (PLAA) process by ensuring required permits are identified, tracked, and
  • Provide environmental oversight during construction by reviewing contractor environmental submittals and evaluating site conditions for compliance with contract and regulatory requirements. Conduct inspections and monitor the effectiveness of environmental mitigation measures, documenting findings and identifying potential risks or non-compliance. Develop and maintain inspection tools, checklists, and records to
  • Collaborates with delivery partners and contractors to address environmental issues, implement corrective and preventive actions, and improve environmental performance. Maintain performance indicators, analyzes trends, and supports continuous improvement in environmental management.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Sciences or a related environmental discipline (including applied degrees equivalent to 4 years of education plus one year of practical experience).
  • At least 3 years of related experience , including environmental site inspections, construction coordination, basic project management and contract administration.
  • A valid Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent) is required.
  • Success in this role requires demonstrated strategic planning, analytical and problem solving; strong project management, organization and planning; and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
