Senior Research Associates:
Under the general direction of, and in collaboration with researchers and faculty members, positions at this level apply extensive knowledge in their field to lead high-level, complex research projects. Compared to Research Associates, these positions exercise greater input and judgment over the research, may be involved in setting research program objectives, and may be responsible for managing the team and project funds. Senior Research Associates would normally hold a doctoral degree or have equivalent qualifications and experience.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to work in a collaborative team environment on “Mapping Pathways to Rocky Cree Territory.” The position involves community-based project management; utilization of geospatial systems and software; research reporting; creation of curriculum-related educational material for Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation (Nelson House). The Research Associate will work closely with the Research Associate hired for “Asiniskaw Ithiniwak (Rocky Cree) Place Names.” Candidates with interest and qualifications in both geospatial and written elements of the project are invited to apply for both positions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with minimal supervision to achieve the project goals and fulfill research grant funding requirements
- Supervise research assistants and students
- Contribute to academic and popular publications related to project research
- Design and implement experiments, data collection protocols, and standards.
- Determine the appropriate methodology to carry out identified research goals.
- Recruit research participants.
- Conduct high-level and complex academic research and literature searches.
- Collect and manage research data, conduct advanced analysis of research results and document findings.
- Interpret research findings and perform editorial tasks.
- Present project status and findings to stakeholders.
- Organize and host seminars, focus groups, community meetings, special events, and other forms of public engagement.
- Identify and assist in securing funding opportunities; prepare and submit documentations required by funding agencies.
- Support project procurement and staff supervision.
- Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project.
- Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications (all of the following):
- Advanced degree in History, Geography, Indigenous Studies, or completion of a major research project in a related area
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and efficiently to meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a team
Desired Qualifications (one or more of the following):
- Experience with supervising community-based research assistants and university students
- Experience with disseminating research results at academic conferences and in community-focused venues
- Experience with facilitating small group meetings and workshops
- Experience working with digital images and remote sensing data
- Familiarity with Cree language and culture
- The ability to read cursive text
