Course Information
Supporting the development of knowledgeable, self-regulated and motivated learners, the course will cover theories and research on learning and development with particular attention to learner diversity. Topics also include inclusive learning environments, effective teaching strategies, assessment, classroom management, differentiated instruction, and universal design for learning. (.75 credit)
The Faculty of Education invites applications for a Limited Duties Instructor to teach the lecture section of Psychological Foundations, a core course in the Bachelor of Education program. The instructor will support teacher candidates in building a foundational understanding of learning, development, and learner-centered pedagogies rooted in psychological theory and research.
The ideal candidate will:
- Foster engagement with the practical applications of educational psychology in diverse K–12 classrooms, equipping teacher candidates with strategies to promote student motivation, resilience, and academic success through inclusive teaching practices.
- Deliver the lecture sessions on teacher preparation, inclusive education, and developmentally responsive instruction.
- Support teacher candidates in learning core psychological theories and concepts as they relate to K–12 teaching and learning.
- Facilitate learning around assessment strategies, differentiation, UDL, and evidence-based instructional design.
- Provide opportunities for teacher candidates to reflect on how psychological frameworks influence planning, instruction, and classroom climate.
- Communicate effectively with the course coordinator (if applicable) and the Teacher Education Office regarding course matters.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.
Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.
Qualifications
Qualifications (Minimum Required):
- PhD degree or equivalent in Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Education, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated record of effective teaching experience in post-secondary.
- Experience teaching or mentoring in teacher education.
- Expert knowledge of learning theories, developmental processes, motivation, and inclusive pedagogies.
- Expertise with the principles of Universal Design for Learning, differentiated instruction, and classroom management.
Preferred Qualifications / Assets:
- Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification in good standing.
- Record of research or scholarly work related to learner development, inclusive education, or educational psychology.
- Experience integrating evidence-based strategies to support diverse learners, including students with exceptionalities.
