About the role
Southbridge Care Homes with its general partner, Southbridge Health Care LP, owns and operates several long-term care and retirement homes throughout many urban and rural areas across Ontario. We are currently seeking a Dietitian Consultant to provide expert nutritional leadership and guidance to Southbridge homes, ensuring compliance with legislative standards and promoting resident health, safety, and satisfaction. This role exists to support the development and implementation of high-quality dietary programs, menu planning, and food service practices that align with the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2021. By partnering with home-level leadership teams, the Dietitian Consultant drives quality improvement, mentors Dietary Managers, and ensures consistent delivery of safe and nutritious meals across all homes. The role primarily supports internal stakeholders, including Executive Directors and Dietary Managers, throughout the organization.
This is a full-time, temporary position to cover a Maternity Leave. This is an office-based role with standard business hours, though extended hours may be required during critical deadlines. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, requiring high attention to detail and strong time management skills. The role includes regular use of computer systems and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The role requires frequent travel to various LTC homes as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Oversight of Dietary functions for our homes with an emphasis on resident safety.
- Consults with Medical and other professional staff to determine nutritional needs and therapeutic diets for residents.
- Review and provide input regarding the seasonal menus and recipes to be used by all Southbridge Care Homes.
- Identifies unsafe conditions or practices and takes appropriate action to address them including educating the home level leadership team regarding risk.
- Ensure nutritional care and hydration program standards as per Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act 2021 are met in collaboration with Dietary Manager or designate.
- Assist Executive Directors with recruitment, selection of new Dietary Managers at the home level.
- Provide onboarding and education to new Dietary Managers.
- Maintaining policies and procedures within all homes, and leading new initiatives and projects.
- Provide routine consultative support to all homes including auditing of kitchen and food storage areas, meal production sheets, dining service, and resident experience.
- All aspects of quality control of services and products provided/ produced by departmental staff.
- Maintaining records, statistics, and reports in accordance with internal and external policies and guidelines.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Degree from a University with a Major in Food and Nutrition.
- Registered Dietitian; Membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario in good standing.
- 3+ years management experience in a long-term care setting in a similar role.
- Exceptional ability to operate independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with residents, other staff, and visitors.
- Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2021 and the Retirement Homes Act
- Excellent interpersonal, project, time management and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout Ontario and a reliable vehicle.
