Internal communications plays a pivotal role in shaping corporate culture to drive employee engagement and employee experience. This role manages the creation and dissemination of internal communications to our employees through enterprise communication channels. The Manager, Employee Communications will lead a diverse and talented team of communications professionals across multiple provinces and work collaboratively with the broader corporate communications team and cross functional business partners.

Key Responsibilities Business Partner Support

  • Manage, execute and oversee performance of multiple projects/business partners simultaneously, ensuring quality work, plan creation with KPIs and execution aligned to goals.
  • Curate and deploy strategic communications across the enterprise to support business partners priorities. This includes engaging with subject matter experts to understand the message they need to communicate and providing strategic counsel on internal channel approaches that focus on delivering understandable, concise messages in a purposeful way that aligns with our brand voice.
  • Develop and foster business partner relationships across the organization that provides feedback, insight, and creates opportunities for problem-solving

Employee Communications Channels

  • Manage the flow of relevant communications materials delivered through a variety of internal channels. This includes developing clear and concise messaging tailored to the channel being used to effectively reach employee segments
  • Act as system administrator for the company intranet to foster community and engagement including the development of an intranet strategy
  • Ensure all communications align with the brand, purpose, core values and beliefs.
  • Manage internal communication schedules and trackers to promote organized and timely communications

Function Management

  • Manage communications plans to meet functional business objectives, metrics and deadlines.
  • Standardize current communications across the organization through collaboration with various departments
  • Work with broader communications and operational teams to streamline communications and messaging with a focus on quality over quantity
  • Seek to continually improve internal communication efforts by researching and proposing effective ideas, processes, and approaches
  • Identify gaps in current communication processes and create humanized solutions
  • Leverage analytics to generate insights and identify areas of opportunity

Team Management

  • Lead the internal communications team in thinking proactively and strategically, leveraging external benchmarking and best practices to build a best-in-class employee communications organization.
  • Coach, mentor and develop the team in support of a high performance culture.
  • Actively look to build and drive an inclusive team culture and recruit and retain a diverse team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relation or other related field
  • Seven to 10 years of experience in employee communications with at least two years in a manager role
  • The following certifications would be an asset: IAP2, PROSCI Change Management, IABC
  • Strong creative capability to transform messages into compelling execution that drive action
  • An ability to manage up and down and across the organization with a proven ability to move forward initiatives in a matrixed environment
  • The ability to take technical ideas and concepts and put them in common language that is easy to understand
  • A strong attention to detail, superior time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize team’s work and projects and divest from non-strategic communications activities with low return/impact.
  • Demonstrate strong storytelling/writing excellence when crafting strategies/communications.
  • Comfort working in a high-energy, quickly changing and fast paced environment
  • Bilingualism in English and French would be considered an asset
