As an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), you will support the delivery of capital projects through all phases of the project lifecycle, working under the direction and supervision of Professional Engineers and Architects to gain progressive responsibility in project coordination, technical review, and contract administration. Primary duties include:

  • Support Project Managers in the planning, design, procurement, construction and close-out of municipal building projects.
  • Coordinate and track project scope, schedule, budget, risks, project logs and action items across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Assist with managing the scope of small projects or discrete work packages within larger capital projects.
  • Review and comment on consultant submissions including drawings, specifications, reports, shop drawings, Requests For Information (RFIs), and change documentation to support quality, constructability and compliance with City standards.
  • Support the interpretation and application of City policies, design guidelines, codes, standards, and sustainability requirements on projects.
  • Participate in site visits to observe construction progress and understand site issues.
  • Assist with contract administration including documentation tracking, payment certification support, change management, deficiency tracking, and issue resolution.
  • Support procurement process including preparation of scopes of work, technical requirements, evaluation support, and coordination with Supply Management.
  • Prepare meeting minutes, follow up on action items, and support communication with the project team.
  • Assist with project cost tracking, forecasting, financial reporting, and project reporting.
  • Work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer to gain qualifying engineering experience towards professional registration.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering and currently registered as an EIT with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or registration with APEGA by the first day of work.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and the use of a personal vehicle for work, or reliable transportation to access work sites is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Teams, Excel and Outlook is required.
  • Experience in project delivery, construction, or municipal infrastructure is essential, along with experience working with technical documents such as drawings, specifications and reports.
  • Previous construction project coordination or design consulting experience will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with the use of Bluebeam software will be considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to track action items, schedules, costs, and documentation across multiple projects.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to participate in meetings, prepare minutes, and coordinate with project team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, along with proven relationship management, consulting and teamwork expertise.
  • The ability to follow directions, interpret and understand technical information, and efficiently prioritize work will be essential for success in this role.

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
