As a Funding Strategist, you will advance the social wellbeing of Calgarians through a wide range of social service planning, funding strategy development, and policy updates. Primary duties include:

  • Collaborate with internal business units, funders, government partners, and community organizations to identify service gaps, develop funding strategies, and monitor funding impact.
  • Lead, develop, monitor, and update funding frameworks and strategies to guide the implementation of multiple funding streams.
  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of funding calls by defining project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Consult with internal and external partners to develop the call for funding proposals materials including eligibility criteria.
  • Develop and present funding recommendations and rationale to Committee and Council while providing oversight and direction the project team throughout all phases.
  • Develop and update The City's social service funding policies and procedures and contribute to corporate- and sector-wide social policy and planning initiatives.
  • Prepare and present written reports, briefing notes, memos and presentations, including funding recommendations to Committee and Council.
  • Build strategic partnerships and collaborate with social service organizations, funders, and different levels of government to deliver social service programming and respond to emerging issues as they relate to social services.

Qualifications

  • A degree in social work, public administration, policy development, or a related field with at least 7 years of experience in the social services field, with an emphasis on systems planning, project management, funding policy and process development, program implementation, and social impact assessment; OR
  • A master's degree in social work, public administration, policy development, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience as outlined above.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of the social service sector, funding or grant making practices is required.
  • An understanding of issues experienced by equity-seeking populations and communities is an asset.
  • The ability to navigate a complex, politically dynamic and ambiguous environment with multiple partners and competing interests.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strategic/analytical thinking, and demonstrated political acumen.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $47.01 - 62.84 per hour

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
