About the Position

Position TitleYouth Worker

Job Type Full Time, Temporary - 35 hours per week (8 weeks)

Reports to Manager, Mental Health & Family Well-being

Summary of Role

The Youth Worker will work with the Mental Health team to develop and execute family and youth-focused activities. They will be directly involved in the delivery of new and existing programs, events, and services as needed. They will also assist with administrative tasks as required by the program and the Society. A second language is considered an asset. They will be directly involved in the delivery of programs, events, and services as needed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Mental Health Department is committed to advancing emotional well-being, breaking down barriers to care, and providing accessible support to individuals and families, with a particular focus on immigrant and refugee communities.

Program Development and Delivery

  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of inclusive youth and family programming, including workshops, community events, and seasonal activities.
  • Co‑develop and co‑facilitate group sessions and wellness‑focused initiatives that promote confidence, connection, and well‑being among newcomer youth and families in safe, culturally responsive environments.
  • Support the delivery of TIES group activities and contribute to the activities of the TIES Wellness Space.
  • Build meaningful relationships with youth and family participants by offering guidance, encouragement, and a respectful, trauma‑informed presence throughout programs.
  • Welcome participants, visitors, and community members at the Westwinds location, fostering a warm, inclusive, and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Support community engagement efforts by helping connect youth and families with relevant programs, services, and resources.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and community events, contributing ideas to enhance program quality and cultural responsiveness.

Communications and Resources Support

  • Collaborate with the Mental Health team to develop and share inclusive promotional and informational materials.
  • Create and adapt digital and print content (newsletters, web pages, social media) that promote wellness and reflect the linguistic and cultural diversity of the communities served.
  • Assist with asset, inventory, and supply management to support smooth program delivery.

inistrative and General Support

  • Provide administrative and logistical support across Mental Health and Youth & Family programs, including registration, scheduling, attendance tracking, and preparing materials.
  • Support reception and general administrative functions, ensuring daily operations run efficiently and professionally.
  • Organize program files, maintain records, and prepare weekly or as‑required reports to support accountability and planning.
  • Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, collaboration, and cultural humility in all interactions with youth, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Carry out additional duties as required to support program goals and departmental needs.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or currently enrolled in college or university
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations is an asset
  • Comfortable with using technology, e.g. MS Office, Internet, skype, websites
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation
  • International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizen or permanent residents
  • Knowledge of foundations of mental health and wellness primary and secondary prevention strategies
