Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Bachelor of Nursing, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse degree.
- Three or more years of experience as nurse in Emergency Room or Critical Care Unit.
- Clinical Educator.
EXPERIENCE:

Three or more years as a clinical educator recommended.

Experience with simulation equipment and programs an asset.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Key responsibilities
Planning, organization and running of Family Medicine/Emergency Medicine Resident simulation sessions throughout year:
- Assists the Brandon Simulation Coordinator with design and execution of courses run by the Brandon Satellite Program with assistance from the University of Manitoba Clinical Learning and Simulation Facility (CLSP) including but not limited to FM/EM simulations sessions throughout the year.
- Assists with booking Simulation facility at Brandon University or Brandon Regional Health Centre, once established, for annual days required.
- Assist Brandon Satellite Program in planning and developing programs using existing learning content as a foundation for development.
- Participates in design of simulation sessions and supports the development of curricular elements including needs assessments, goals and objectives, and evaluations.
- Works with subject matter experts to promote the utilization of best practices in the design and development of learning.
- Collaborates with the Administrator to coordinate Simulation Technician scheduling, provides direct input to ensure that sessions are properly supported and user needs are met.
Simulation Device Technology:
- Serve as the primary operator and expert on the simulation mannequins, ensuring proper functioning before, during, and after simulations.
- Set up and test all necessary simulation equipment, including but not limited to, crash carts, defibrillators, C-Mac machines, and other medical devices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to audio/visual setups, mannequins, and medical equipment during simulations.
- Breaks down, transports, sets up, and operates simulation off site as required for in situ training; Resolves technical problems with systems and equipment through searches in technical manuals and/or consultation with suppler technical support staff. Completes equipment assembly, minor repairs and/or adjustments or more specialized repairs (e.g. to Simulation Mannequins, task trainers, etc.)
- Instructs faculty users and students in the operation, safe handling and use of simulation equipment, medical equipment, and trainers.
- Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, including basic theory, design and implementation.
- Participates in technical training as necessary; attends sessions, courses or conferences to stay current with simulation technology.
- Assists in the research of purchasing options for lab equipment and software.
Simulation Scenario Preparation:
- Assembles task trainer simulators and prepares for use. Powers on high-fidelity human-patient simulators and associated peripherals. Controls pre-programmed and “on-the-fly” scenarios for high-fidelity human-patient simulators with the help of a medical professional; may edit trends, or enter preprogrammed scenarios into mannequin software.
- Prepares simulation and debriefing areas, patient care simulators, scenario props, supplies and equipment to support the clinical and skill objectives and specifications identified by instructional staff.
- Review and become familiar with provided simulation scenarios in advance, ensuring understanding of clinical objectives and required resources.
- Print scenario materials and ensure relevant resources (e.g., ACS order sets, transfusion reaction algorithms) are available for resident reference during simulations.
- Set up the simulation environment to mirror real-world clinical scenarios, including adjusting the mannequin (e.g., gender changes using wigs or moulage) and adding relevant props and equipment to enhance realism.
- Coordinate Nurse Confederate to work in the simulation lab with the Residents.
Planning, organization, set up for other SIM sessions, assist with SIM sessions, organization and inventory tracking of SIM supplies, ensure adequate annual supplies including those for RIG and RREP:
- Liaises with Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) and Prairie Mountain Health Authority (PMH) representatives for medical supply and equipment related items.
- Develops annual inventory list and needs assessment for planned activities.Serves as a resource for others to access learning resources in the CLSP and Brandon Satellite Program. Collaborates with other departments/units/programs both internal and external to the University in order to facilitate/promote Simulation-based education.
- Assists with incorporating enhancements to CLSP and Brandon Satellite Program user educational activity including promoting the use of moulage, standardized patients, and improvements to set-up/staging and organization of simulation events.
- Works directly with Brandon Satellite Program administration and CLSP staff in order to identify needed resources, improve access, storage and management of resources, and optimize room configuration.
- Educates and advises Brandon Satellite Program staff regarding the clinical aspects of simulation.
- Coordinates the safety, biosafety and WHMIS Programs for the Brandon Satellite Program.
- Troubleshoots and coordinates simulations at the Brandon Regional Health Centre and Brandon University for the Brandon Satellite Program SIM activitie.
- Liaises with user groups to identify needs; Researches new supplies and equipment and makes recommendations for purchase;.
- Participates as a member of the Brandon Satellite Program, providing input and support to the operational decision-making process and the development of related policy and procedures; and - Provides direct support to sessions for the Brandon Satellite Program in the Brandon Regional Health Center and Brandon University.
- Assist with SIM equipment planning and purchasing, ensuring equipment maintained.
- Assist with arranging PALS, ACLS, BLS, NRP, ALARM courses and dates for residents.
- Assist with set up of SOO days, role-playing in same, assist with OSCE exam practice.
- Provides direct input and assists in creating and maintaining a procedures manual for this position.
