Our Special Projects and Legacy sites team are looking for a Head of Health, Safety, Environment and Community reporting to the Head of Special Projects. You will be responsible for the strategic leadership, governance, and implementation of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Community risk management programs across the organisation’s non-operational assets. This includes legacy mining sites, closed or rehabilitating operations, and special projects outside core production activities. Ensuring compliance, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable practices aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements and Glencore’s strategic health, safety and environment objectives.

The Role:

HSEC

Demonstrate leadership in accordance with Glencore’s values, policies, HSE standards and relevant external requirements.

Monitor compliance with relevant legal & corporate requirements within area of responsibility.

Advise, support, and assist the Head of Special Projects, HSEC Managers, and leadership teams in the implementation of Glencore policies, standards, systems, and processes to deliver against the organisation’s strategic objectives and targets.

Demonstrate a highly visible on-site presence and commitment to Glencore’s Values.

Foster a pro-active approach to health, safety and environmental management by collaborating with cross-functional leadership teams from Group, Departments, and relevant project teams

People

Lead and influence cross-functional teams by coaching, mentoring, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement without direct line management responsibility.

Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to guide and support performance, drive alignment on HSEC objectives, and promote best practices.

Act as a trusted advisor and change agent, facilitating teamwork and development across functional boundaries to achieve organisational goals.

Coach and mentor Senior Management on:

Risk and change management.

HSEC management systems.

External HSE standards and emerging trends.

Incident reporting and investigation.

Auditing (Assurance & Verification).

Site teams and support.

Operational Performance

Strategy Actively contribute to the development of the Group HSEC&HR strategy, HSEC projects and initiatives.

Lead the development of the Special Projects HSEC strategy, including establishing and monitoring performance KPIs. Support the relevant stakeholders to deliver HSE initiatives against the corporate and department HSE strategy.

Risk Management: Lead Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) activities, integrating HSEC risks into broader business risk frameworks, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, compliance requirements, and strategic decision-making.

Oversee the HSEC Risk register and, support in the development of HSEC risk assessments, including catastrophic hazard bowties; environmental baseline, risk, and impact assessments; and health impacts, risks, and needs assessments.

Management Systems: Develop, implement, and manage the Special Projects HSEC Management Systems (Polices, protocols, procedures, guidelines). Ensure alignment with corporate and department system requirements; and

Ensure robust systems for reporting, investigation, notification and recording of incidents and ‘near misses’ are in place, including sharing of lessons learnt, in accordance with group expectations and the needs of business and special projects assurance.

Assurance:

Provide assurance to the Group industrial management teams on the adequacy and effectiveness of systems and process that are in place to mitigate HSEC risks. Support and monitor progress against actions arising from HSEC assurance activities.

Develop the Special Projects HSEC assurance plan in alignment with corporate requirements. Collaborate with the relevant teams to plan and execute effective assurance activities that promote risk ownership and enhance performance. The assurance intent is to proactively identify and mitigate risks specific to special projects.

Department, Region, and Site Support: Provide high quality HSEC advice and technical support to the business.

Provide support in high consequence or high potential consequence incident investigation and share learnings across the business.

General:

Represent the Special Projects Department on technical working groups and Glencore on external industry forums, as appropriate.

Manage or monitor progress of HSEC projects.

Develop and manage the Special Projects HSEC budget and monitor performance against budget.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in health, Safety, Environmental discipline, or related field., and sound knowledge/training in relevant international standards.

Minimum of 10 - 15 years relevant experience and familiarity in the resource or heavy industry sector.

International experience in multinational organisations.

Both strong operational and corporate experience.

Understanding of international standards such as ISO 45001, ISO14001, ISO 19001 and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards.

Sound analytical, report and standard writing skills.

Experience planning and implementing assurance activities.

Strong communication and relationship building skills.
