Assistant Controller
About the role
Overview:
Our client, a single-family investment office, is looking for an accounting professional to join their team. This role reports to the Controller.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full accounting cycle for a variety of entities (corporations, trusts, foundations, and joint ventures)
- Identify and assess financial reporting options and recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options
- Manage annual external audits
- Mentor and develop accounting staff as part of department succession planning
- Assist in developing, updating, and compiling management reporting
- Review periodic reporting packages from portfolio investment companies
- Take lead in identifying and implementing on-going improvements to procedures, processes, and reporting including use of technology solutions
- Responsible for investment performance measurement function including management of monthly/quarterly reporting cycle, control design and implementation, and oversight of process effectiveness and efficiency
- Ad-hoc analysis and projects
- Take ownership of delegated assignments and ensure that filing/reporting requirements and deadlines are met
- Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations
Qualifications:
- CPA
- University business degree
- 6-10 years accounting experience
- Experience in a management/supervisory role
- Family Office or Investment/Holding company experience desirable
- GAAP knowledge – ASPE and ASNPO
- Good income tax knowledge
- Microsoft Dynamics Business Central (or related) – Asset
- Excel - Proficiency
- Taxprep - Working knowledge
- CCH Tagetik – Asset
- Demonstrates strong communication skills both with internal and external stakeholders
