Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Technician to join the Canadian Executive and Professional Lines Underwriting team based in our Toronto office.

The Underwriting Technician (UT) will play a critical role in supporting the Executive and Professional Lines underwriting team and will perform tasks to directly support the underwriting process including pre-quote, pre-bind, bind and post bind transactions. The UT will also perform additional underwriting support activities associated with, multinational placements, information gathering and rating for new business, renewals and midterm changes. Additionally, the UT will assist with electronic file preparation on behalf of the Underwriter as well as rater work and reconciliation to underwriter benchmarks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support underwriters with all activities related to account development.
  • Build files and ensure file integrity.
  • Coordinate policy issuance and liaise with Operations team.
  • Draft quotes and binders and review with underwriters.
  • Correspond with brokers; follow up on outstanding information.
  • Act as a liaison to the Operations and Multinational Group.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • +3 years of insurance experience preferred.
  • Will consider candidates without insurance experience who have strong administrative, analytical and communication skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven attention to detail.
  • Must be proactive and able to work within a team environment.
  • Self-starter; ability to support and build workflow and process.
  • Strong communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Strong competency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to demonstrate a superior knowledge of excel would be considered a significant asset.

The base salary range for this position in Toronto, Canada is 68,000 CAD to 70,000 CAD, along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
