Overview: The role of the Technical Services Unit (TSU) is to provide technical expertise and consistency across all of Pembina’s Business Units which involves the development and governance of standards, specifications and procedures. TSU works in conjunction with other Service Units to support the business objectives and operational requirements of the Business Units.

Pembina’s Technical Services Unit (TSU) is currently seeking an Engineer, Pipeline Integrity. On behalf of Pembina’s Business Units (BUs), TSU manages a comprehensive integrity management program, which includes facility integrity, pipeline integrity, technical services, geotechnical, Project Management Office (PMO) and Safety Security and Emergency Response.

As a key contributing member of the team, the Pipeline Integrity Engineer is responsible for technical analysis, oversight, and planning in the management of integrity threats of several pipeline systems.

Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit pembina.com/safety;
  • Annual review and update of system specific integrity management program (IMP) documents;
  • Ensuring integrity monitoring and mitigation programs are compliant with Pembina’s corporate IMP, regulatory requirements and industry standards;
  • Reviewing annual risk assessment results to drive integrity programs and ensure year-on-year risk reduction;
  • Conducting various integrity reviewing meetings with Operations including, internal/external corrosion reviews, risk assessment reviews, and annual budget and program reviews;
  • In-line inspection frequency and tool technology selection, analysis and creation of excavation/inspection programs;
  • Emphasis on in-line inspection data analysis;
  • Participate in and determine appropriate pipeline repair decisions on an on-call basis;
  • Participate in and determine pipeline integrity annual program execution scope;
  • Support cathodic protection programs to ensure compliance;
  • Support chemical inhibition programs;
  • Working closely with Pipeline Integrity and Operations staff, and various integrity vendors and consultants;
  • Maintain continuous, up-to-date program and activity records and metrics;
  • Provide integrity data analysis, integrity support and integrity scope definition to projects across the company;
  • Assist in defining annual pipeline integrity budgets and 10yr long range plans;
  • Participate in execution of pipeline Engineering Assessments of various integrity threats;
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to integrity assessment and management;
  • Close-out analysis and reporting;
  • Demonstrate learning agility by actively seeking feedback, adapting to new information quickly, and applying learnings to improve performance and deliver results in a dynamic environment; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Professional engineering degree or relevant technologist certification;
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience involving pipeline integrity;
  • Competence with pipeline integrity threat assessment and management, risk assessment, monitoring and mitigation strategies;
  • Competence with in-line inspection analysis using MFL, Geometry, IMU, and ultrasonic technologies;
  • Competence in assessment and repair of pipeline corrosion, cracking, and deformation;
  • Familiarity with pipeline design, operations, risk management and maintenance;
  • Theoretical understanding of pipeline defect assessment, evaluation and repair;
  • Working knowledge of industry best practices, codes, standards and regulations in Canada and USA;
  • Familiarity with programing in python and machine learning;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently given appropriate guidance, and able to prioritize multiple tasks on tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrate critical analytical and strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, or processes and apply them effectively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Willing to travel throughout Pembina’s pipeline asset locations (approximately 10%); and
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
