• Provide expert medical leadership and strategic advice on public health issues to the Chief Medical Officer of Health and senior ministry officials across government.
• Lead the integration of public health science, research, and data to inform policy development and long-term planning.

• Champion the use of evidence-based research in public health policy and program design.
• Serve as a key leader during public health emergencies, guiding effective response and recovery efforts.
Meet Your New Team
The Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) safeguards the health of Ontarians and provides advice on public health matters to the health sector, the division, Ministry of Health, other ministries and the provincial government. The CMOH provides oversight and takes appropriate steps to promote and protect the health of Ontarians.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory:
• Medical Credentials: Degree in medicine from a recognized university and Fellowship in Community Medicine (Public Health and Preventive Medicine) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
• Licensure and Experience: Licensed to practice medicine in Ontario, with a minimum of five years' experience as a practicing public health physician.
Leadership Experience:
• System Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor colleagues across the public health system, providing strategic direction and guidance.
• Risk Management: Skilled in assessing and managing public health risks, with a proactive approach to identifying emerging issues and shaping strategic responses.
• Inclusive Culture: Commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace that values diverse perspectives and professional growth.
Analytical Expertise:
• Evidence-Informed Practice: Deep understanding of knowledge translation and the application of research to support policy and decision-making.
• Problem Solving: Ability to address complex public health challenges with innovative, science-based solutions.
• Strategic Insight: Capacity to think beyond task execution, contributing to ministry-wide strategic responses and long-term policy planning.
Technical Knowledge:
• Public Health Expertise: Extensive knowledge of public health systems, trends, and emerging issues to support strategic leadership and decision-making.
• Legislative Understanding: Expert knowledge of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, including the ability to exercise legal powers under the Act.
Communication and Relationship Management :
• Stakeholder Engagement: Strong relationship-building skills with senior leaders and external partners across government levels.
• Influence and Collaboration: Effective communicator and negotiator, able to influence senior officials and collaborate with medical professionals.
• Media Relations: Skilled in public communication and media engagement in support of public health issues and the Chief Medical Officer of Health.
