About The Role As a Claims Specialist, you'll be at the forefront of our claims handling process, applying your technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities to assess, investigate, and resolve primary and excess claims with efficiency and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and process commercial property claims (with a focus on subscription policies), as well as casualty and financial professional lines' claims, ensuring thorough assessment and documentation
- Investigate claim circumstances by gathering and analyzing relevant information from policyholders, witnesses, and other sources
- Engage and direct independent adjusters, appraisers, experts and coverage/defense counsel
- Determine coverage by interpreting policy language and applying appropriate guidelines and regulations
- Negotiate settlements with policyholders, claimants, and other insurers while maintaining fairness and company standards
- Collaborate with underwriters to provide insights on risk assessment and policy improvements based on claims experience
- Maintain detailed records of all claims activities, decisions, and communications in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements
- Develop relationships with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth claims processing
- Stay current with industry trends, legal developments, and best practices in claims handling
- Travel up to 10% of the time to attend client/broker meetings, mediations, trials, etc.
About The Team The Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Canada Claims team is responsible for managing and resolving primary and excess insurance claims across our Canadian portfolio. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring accurate and fair claim settlements, working collaboratively with underwriting and other departments to support the overall business objectives.
About You You're a methodical and analytical thinker with excellent communication skills and a customer-centric approach. Your ability to balance thoroughness with efficiency allows you to handle claims of all severity while maintaining high service standards. You thrive in collaborative environments and are committed to continuous learning in the evolving insurance landscape.
We Are Looking For Candidates Who Meet These Requirements
- 1 to 3 years of proven experience handling property claims, with particular emphasis on subscription policies
- Demonstrated knowledge of insurance principles, policy interpretation, and claims procedures
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- University degree or equivalent
These Are Additional Nice To Haves
- Builders' Risk claims experience
- Specialty lines claims experience, including E&O, D&O and Casualty
- Insurance industry designations (CIP, FCIP, CPCU)
- Experience with claims management software systems
- Knowledge of Canadian insurance regulations and legal framework
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Bilingual in English/French is a strong asset
Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week The base salary hiring range for this new position is $80,000 - $130,000 CAD. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
