About the role
This role is for a skilled music composer to create an original score for a feature-length documentary centered on a personal and transformative journey. The film explores the late-life discovery of a transgender identity through candid interviews and intimate storytelling, requiring a soundtrack that is both minimal and emotionally resonant. The project is independently produced and seeks a composer who can bring sensitivity and nuance to the subject matter, enhancing the narrative with a subtle yet impactful musical approach.
Responsibilities
- Compose and produce an original score tailored to the documentary’s tone and themes
- Collaborate closely with the director to understand the emotional arc and narrative structure
- Develop musical motifs that support the film’s intimate and personal storytelling
- Deliver high-quality audio files suitable for post-production and final mastering
- Revise and adapt compositions based on feedback from the creative team
- Ensure all music is original and properly licensed for use in the film
Skills And Requirements
- Proven experience composing for documentaries or independent films, with a portfolio demonstrating minimal and high-impact scoring
- Strong ability to interpret narrative and emotional cues, translating them into effective musical themes
- Proficiency with digital audio workstations and music production software
- Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
- Excellent communication skills for remote collaboration
- Sensitivity to LGBTQ+ themes and personal storytelling is highly valued
- Availability for immediate start and flexible to accommodate project timelines
